About the Business
Welcome to Oakleigh South Primary School, located on Riley Street in the beautiful area of Oakleigh South, Australia. As the Principal of the school, I am proud to be a part of this institution that has grown from a small enrolment of 109 students to approximately 1000 students today.
Our school is situated in a quiet area, surrounded by the Metropolitan and Huntingdale Golf Courses, providing a serene and peaceful environment for our students to thrive in. We take great pride in offering a wide range of success-oriented opportunities to all our students, ensuring they receive a well-rounded education in a safe and caring environment.
At Oakleigh South Primary School, we place a strong emphasis on academic achievement, with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy as the foundation for all further learning. Additionally, we are committed to nurturing the whole child by providing opportunities in music, visual arts, sport, and sustainability.
We are part of the Oakleigh Education Plan (OEP) Learning Precinct, along with South Oakleigh College and Huntingdale Primary School. This collaborative approach ensures that every student has access to high-quality education. You can learn more about the OEP and stay updated with all the actions and activities on our dedicated Oakleigh Education Plan web space.
Exciting developments are on the horizon for Oakleigh South Primary School, as we have been granted $8.847 million in funding for a building project. This project will upgrade our administration wing, year 6 classroom wing, and build a sustainable village garden kitchen, further enhancing our facilities for the benefit of our students.
In addition to our academic achievements, we also have a vibrant extracurricular program. Our Year 6 students have been rehearsing tirelessly for our upcoming production of Wizard of Oz, which will be held in our school hall. We also have a range of community events, such as Footy Day sausage sizzles and Father's Day stalls, where families can come together and enjoy the school community spirit.
We are also excited to announce that South Oakleigh Secondary College will be performing Seussical Jnr, a show that appeals to all ages and is based on classic Dr. Seuss characters. We encourage the community to come and support their performance.
To further support our families and strengthen the connection between school and home, we are delighted to share the fourth edition of Project , a resource that discusses the importance of empathy and provides tips for fostering it within the family.

"We are so blessed to be able to send our 2 girls to Oakleigh South Primary School. Their teachers are all nurturing, compassionate and professional. The senior staff including Principal Ron Cantlon has set a high standard for the school, pushing every student to excel in their areas of potential. Most importantly, every child is respected and feels safe in this school. It is truly a number 1 state school!"
"My daughter is in grade one and absolutely loves her fellow students and teachers. From her main teachers to all the other teachers she’s dealt with in prep and grade 1, have been fantastic. Highly recommend this school and thank the teachers for their ongoing support."
"All my 4 children go to this school. They go to school very happy and come home equally as happy. Teachers are creative and both My sons and daughters are well educated. I came here as a child and was the same experience"
"Despite the school being really big, the teachers know each and every child and it has such a great community feel. Feels like one big family! Such a great school with so many opportunities. The sports program as well as the focus on health is fantastic!"
"Best School Ever!! Kids love it. Facilities always improving. Prep to Grade 2 teachers were all amazing, kids loved them and loved going to school. Parents parking is a nightmare though, and is only getting worse since the school has grown. Could be stuck until 3:50 before can exit in the car, that's over 15 minutes waiting. Council has zones the streets around there as 2 minute and Resident Permit, and council officers hide behind trees and cars and in blackened window cars with cameras ready to take pics of parents dropping off."
