About the Business
Welcome to Elwood Primary, a prestigious establishment located at 49 Scott Street in Elwood, Australia. As a primary school, we are dedicated to providing a high-quality education for our students and nurturing their growth and development.
At Elwood Primary, we pride ourselves on our commitment to excellence in education. Our institution is not just a school, but a point of interest in the community, where students, parents, and staff come together to create a vibrant and supportive learning environment.
One of the unique features of Elwood Primary is our renowned Kitchen Garden Program. This program allows our students to learn about sustainable living and healthy eating by actively participating in the cultivation and maintenance of our school garden. It is truly a sight to behold, witnessing our students in action as they grow and harvest their own produce.
We also value the input of our parents and community members. Our Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 17 May provides an opportunity for parents to gain insight into our learning and teaching approaches. Additionally, our school tours, held every Tuesday and Wednesday at 9.15am, offer prospective families a chance to experience our school firsthand.
Our Grade 6 students have recently showcased their literacy skills by creating their very own podcast, demonstrating their creativity and passion for storytelling. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the opportunities we provide for our students to express themselves.
Elwood Primary is more than just a school; it is a community. We greatly appreciate the contribution of parents, grandparents, and other community members who generously give their time to support our students. Their involvement is invaluable in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for all.
As an accredited institution under the Department of Education and Training's CRICOS registration, we ensure that our international students receive the highest standard of education. For more information, please visit www.study.vic.gov.au.

"The school hall is old, small and run down. Large school events are impossible unless held outdoors. Most of the school social events are held off site at a trendy, noisy venue in Elwood or St Kilda, and they make people pay a lot of money. They assume everyone has a lot of money, which is really annoying. The school is bursting at the seams. It is not designed to hold so many students and urgently needs new facilities. It should at least have a drive through drop off and pick up zone, considering the severe congestion at those times. The school is not well designed and not very accessible. I also didn't like the uniform. Too much navy. Bring in some colour. And a windcheater option would be good. The before school care doesn't open until 7:15AM which is terrible considering the number of students they have! And makes it impossible if you have to start work at 7am or even 8AM for some people, especially single parents find it difficult and will be locked out of a lot of jobs. School admin needs to be improved as a number of times I was told I'd run out of CSEF even though none of it had been used. It also performs quite badly on NAPLAN considering 56% of its students are from the highest socio education advantage group. You can find much better performing schools in areas that are much less expensive than Elwood. There is a lack of diversity with only 16% of students coming from a non-english speaking background. And there is a low percentage of kids in Elwood compared to the Melbourne average. So kids might find it hard to socialise outside school. The road congestion and dense living environment can be stressful for the kids. These are some of the many reasons I chose to take my child out of Elwood primary school."
"pretty scrungy place if you ask me. met some bad people there. never went."
"We have 2 daughters at Elwood Primary. We’ve been very happy with the experience they’ve had at the school. All but one of the teachers they’ve had have been excellent. It’s a large school but manages to still be friendly."
"The school has a selection of good teachers but most of them are pretty average or bad, as I was a student there 2 years ago, I can say it didn't teach me all that much but I did make a lot of friends. The teachers really are not good except for a few teachers, they would yell and get angry really quickly, and by teaching us they would get us to write a story or solve an easy math problem, they are more annoying baby sitters than teachers."
"An excellent community minded school focussing on bring out the best in kids. A broad range of programs including the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. A monthly market brings the loacl community together and raises much needed money for the school."
