About the Business
Welcome to Nganboo Borron School, a specialist establishment located in Werribee, Australia. We are excited to announce that our brand new school will be opening its doors on the first day of Term 1 in 2024. Designed to cater to the needs of students with mild to profound intellectual disabilities, our institution aims to provide a high-quality education to the growing local population.
With a capacity to enroll up to 148 students, Nganboo Borron School is dedicated to offering specialized educational programs tailored to the specific needs of students with disabilities and high support requirements. As part of the 2022-23 State Budget, our school has received a share of $527.233 million allocated for the development of new schools, ensuring that we have the necessary resources to provide an exceptional learning environment.
Enrollment at Nganboo Borron School is subject to specific criteria, and students must meet these requirements in order to be admitted. Prior to enrolling, your child will need to undergo a comprehensive assessment, with the results of this assessment being a crucial factor in supporting their enrollment. Typically, students are assessed during their early school years or at the kindergarten level.
While students with disabilities, including physical disabilities, have the right to attend their local mainstream government school, Nganboo Borron School is specifically designed for students with diagnosed intellectual disabilities that align with our enrollment criteria. We understand that students with intellectual disabilities may also have co-occurring health conditions or other disabilities, and our school is equipped to meet a wide range of needs.
If your child has been formally assessed and diagnosed with an intellectual disability that aligns with our enrollment criteria, they are eligible to enroll at Nganboo Borron School. To begin the enrollment process, please send an email with the subject line "Enrollment at Nganboo Borron School" to [email protected].
Unlike mainstream schools, specialist schools do not have school zones. At Nganboo Borron School, we consider enrollment applications from eligible students regardless of their place of residence. However, in cases where the school has limited capacity, priority may be given to eligible applicants based on proximity to the school.
While transportation to and from school is the responsibility of parents, the department provides additional travel assistance through various programs. The conveyance allowance is available to assist with transport costs, including public transportation. While it does not cover the full costs, it can provide financial support to families and carers. For further information on the supports offered through the conveyance allowance, please reach out to the school.
Students residing in the designated transport area for Nganboo Borron School may also be eligible for transport assistance through the Students with Disabilities Transport Program. To determine whether you live within the school's designated transport area, please check the external link on our website.
Starting from 2024, school buses will be available to eligible students residing within the designated transport area. Bus route designs are currently in progress, and we will share proposed bus routes with families later this year. Alternatively, the department encourages students to use active travel methods such as walking or cycling to school. Discounted travel options, such as a child Myki card or a Victorian Student Pass, may be available for families who prefer to use public transportation.
At Nganboo Borron School, we prioritize creating an inclusive culture where all students can thrive. We are proud of our school's name, which was chosen following a two-week community consultation. "Nganboo Borron" is derived from Wadawurrung words meaning "children first, nurturing on your shoulder." This name reflects our commitment to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for our students.
Our principal, Michele Marcu, brings over 20 years of experience in the education and disability sectors. She is dedicated to ensuring that all students have access to the best possible programs and supports. Michele is eager to connect with the community throughout 2023 and looks forward to fostering a culture of inclusion at Nganboo Borron School.
Our students will have access to modern learning areas equipped with air conditioning and heating, ensuring a comfortable and conducive learning environment. Outside, shade sails have been installed to provide sun protection during outdoor activities. Additionally, we have designed our school to be environmentally sustainable and easy to manage.
Throughout the planning and design process, we have collaborated with local Traditional Owners, represented by the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, to ensure that our school respects and acknowledges the cultural heritage of the land. We are grateful for their endorsement of the school's design.
We invite you to explore our website for more information on the programs, supports, and services available at Nganboo Borron School. We are committed to providing a comprehensive and inclusive education for all students living with disabilities and additional needs.
