In 1997, Dr Brieger returned to Australia and was appointed acting Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King George V Memorial Hospital for Mothers and Babies. Shortly after, he became a Visiting Medical Officer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. His exceptional skills and dedication led to his appointment as a Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Royal North Shore Hospital in 2005, a position he held until 2013 when he decided to focus on private obstetrics.
Dr Brieger's contributions to the field of obstetrics and gynaecology extend beyond his clinical practice. He has published over 20 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and has received research grants both in Australia and overseas. He has also served as an examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. His current research focuses on pre-eclampsia or hypertension in pregnancy, and he played a pivotal role in the establishment of PEARLS, an organization dedicated to raising funds for pre-eclampsia research.
In 2015, Dr Brieger joined the Medical Council of New South Wales as a Committee Member and later became a Council Member in 2018. The Council plays a crucial role in maintaining public health and safety by ensuring registered doctors uphold professional standards and remain fit to practice.
