"I stayed in Lady Davidson Hospital for for 1.5-2 weeks. I'm in my 40's and was one of the younger people there, but honestly they can cater for all demographics. The care I received was mostly amazing. Their staff are so caring and nurturing. While I wanted to stay their longer, I had to leave as I was attending a Pain Management Course... so I sadly had to leave earlier than I wanted to. I left with a happy look on my face and more positive, according to a friend who collected me. A big shout out to Sheile (the Senior Physiotherpist) and Sue (Physio) for keeping me smiling and upbeat. The stay would not have been the same without them! Their positivity and enthusium is infectious, and I cannot thank them enough. Food was good but improvements could have been made. The Occupational Therapist was amazing. Their Hydrotherapy was amazing. Whatever age you are, I would highly recommend this hospital without a doubt. The love and care you receive is amazing.\ A big call out to Nurse Caroline for her care."
"Extremely disappointing that rehabilitation is almost non-existent at this place for older patients. My mother was transferred here from hospital, we expected more physiotherapy and independence developed at rehab-not far less. A few minutes a day with a physio aide, we were laughed at for suggesting (as the hospital physio had said she was ready for) a low walker rather than the unwieldy stand. We were told it was preposterous that she would be able to toilet herself again. Well thank heavens she got an infection and was transferred back to hospital, she is now using the low walker and walking good distances across grass and rough terrain, she can walk short distances without an aid and is toileting independently and doing things we were laughed at for suggesting to the staff at LDH."
"Overall a pleasant stay. I seem to remember that the kitchen in the Lambert Ward, down the back of the property, had a sign on the door reading ‘Do not enter’. For an early riser like me I disobeyed the sign and helped myself to a cup of coffee around 5am each morning. Always tidied up afterwards."
"The refurbished Lambert Ward does not seem to have a dining room where patients could meet and interact with other patients. This means that each day, apart from some physiotherapy the patients are in their room all day on their own. There are no 'events' in the lounge room, no talks, discussions, music, bingo, nothing. On the weekend it is worse, as there are no therapists there of any kind. Whilst many patients may be older, does the hospital really have to serve 'afternoon tea'' at 1.30 "because the staff finish at 2.00 as the tea has to be finished" "besides which we serve dinner at 5.00p.m" So patients are offered no hot drinks for 3 1/2 hours, nor a biscuit, nothing. AND WHY IS DINNER SERVED AT 5p.m. the patients aren't children. Who eats dinner at 5pm, surely, surely to goodness dinner could be served at least one hour later at 6pm. But once again it is most likely done, not for the patients benefit, but for the staff and administration. There is no way visitors can make a cup of tea for a patient, and the nurse from a Chinese background was very irritated when asked could a cup of tea be given to a patient. So be afraid all those who are well and who read this - be very afraid, for if you need rehabilitation know that you will be treated like a child, you will have to fit in with the nursing schedule, and no thought will be given to treating you as a thinking, intelligent adult who just happens to need some physical rehabilitation. There must be many like my elderly neighbour whose family are interstate and overseas and whose old friends are no longer able to drive or a catch a bus to visit, so she sits there all day on her own, feeling very lonely and depressed. Surely in 2019 we can do better than this."
"I've had two really good experiences with Lady Davidson. In Feb 2019, my 100yr old mum was there for about two weeks recovering from a hip operation. We interacted with a large number of staff - and were really impressed with their care and concern for mum , their professionalism and their availability to answer a myriad of questions. The second experience was with my wife's 97yr old dad who had a fall and broken a couple of bones. Same experience: great staff and great care."
