"Very outdated & not alot to choose from when your at a buffet, unless you like chicken feet. The place had a weird smell which is off putting when trying to eat. It wasnt to my liking but each to there own i guess."
"Hasn't changed in the past 20 years they still haven't fixed the front door ( it gets stuck when you fully open it )lol I walked in there and felt 20 again and you feel like you gonna get stabbed walking to the toilets out back"
"Food Star is an experience like no other. A truly natural liminal space. A place that is within and in-between nostalgia and new paradigms. A place that is at once strange and familiar, warm and distant, vivid yet surreal. It is not a vibe that can be manufactured or created. You may think you understand what a liminal space entails, but recognising its characteristics and aesthetics is different to being enthralled within it—it's the difference between splashing in a man-made swimming pool and floating in an ocean. You cannot understand it until you are in it. I did not. Here, by the hums of the neon and faint echoes from the kitchen, this place is not haunted by the past hungry patrons and boisterous families of its heyday (although they may come to mind). No, here YOU are the ghost. The world shifts and continues to spin. Endless faces pass right by endless windows. And yet, here you are. Eating the same food. From the same plates. Surrounded by the same decor. All unchanged. But quieter. No modern restaurant (or any place in Melbourne really) can capture such a strange but satisfying feeling. It is like a polaroid that didn't quite set all the way. But it was a good memory. So you hold onto it. You will be sad to leave. For there is nothing else like it. A place conducive of the rarest of feelings. Oh the food? The food was competent too. Very reasonably priced. A good variety as one would expect. Tea and coffee included. Take me back. 10/10"
"This place always seems to feel dirty. To get to the toilet it feels like you’re going where you shouldn’t be and they are filthy. Broken locks on doors last visit and smelt bad. As for the food, it doesn’t seem fresh and it takes while for them to top up food once it’s been eaten. Lots of sitting around waiting for more food to one out."
"We used a voucher for this meal on Wednesday night....Positive some food was wonderful like the prawns and the homemade sauce for them, noodles, sesame balls dim sims, honey chicken all great..... best mussels i have ever had they were huge.... only 2 people working on the floor one for bookings one doing tables she did a great job cleaning up quickly...Now for the negative....we arrived at 6.10 and it was like most of the food had been sitting there since lunch (i did you a favour not posting pictures of that food)... we didn't touch most of it as it looked dry and unappealing... so sorry as i think you are trying to drum up new business... i would suggest....giving the floors and glass a good clean and replace who ever washes the cutlery as most was not clean. or maybe spend $40 and replace them get onto building management and get them to clean the vents in the ceiling. cook small amounts and bring out fresh food ! chips tasted like they had sat there for hrs or been reheated... dont let food sit for hrs couldn't touch the carvery I know the price is cheap but we wont be back as its not all fresh and having to check plates and cutlery are clean before picking up is not good..signs for what you are eating would be great rather than trying to guess as in stir fry chicken with veggies etc put the price up by $5 maybe stop people coming to just eat all your prawns pay someone to stand at the counter and give each person a few prawns make them come back or limit to 10 each person that way more money to spend on other things.. we would like to support what we think is a family business but all the negatives out weigh the positives...."
