About the Business
Welcome to the Sydney Sexual Health Centre, located at 8 Macquarie Street in Sydney, Australia. As an establishment dedicated to providing health services, we are a point of interest for individuals seeking sexual health care.
At our center, we prioritize convenience and accessibility for our patients. That's why we are excited to introduce MyCheck, a fast and easy testing option available at pathology services near you. With MyCheck, there's no need to physically come to the clinic for testing. We will manage all your results and provide treatment if necessary.
To determine if we are the best place to meet your needs, we recommend using our Time To Test online risk assessment tool. This tool helps assess if you may have been at risk for a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or HIV. Based on your recent sexual activity, we will provide guidance on what steps to take next.
As we are located on the lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, we pay respect to their elders, both past and present.
Our center specializes in HIV care, with dedicated staff who are experts in the field. We offer free and confidential testing, treatment, and care for individuals at risk of or living with HIV. We strongly encourage regular HIV, STI, and hepatitis testing for gay and bisexual men, as well as other men who have sex with men.
PrEP, which stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis, is another service we provide. It involves the use of antiretroviral drugs by HIV-negative individuals to prevent HIV infection. By taking PrEP daily, studies have shown that it effectively prevents HIV transmission. If you would like more information about PrEP, please consult your doctor or nurse during your visit or visit www.endinghiv.org.au.
In collaboration with ACON, we offer a peer-led testing service on Oxford Street, catering to the needs of different communities. We also encourage regular HIV and STI testing for sex workers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Assessment and treatment for hepatitis B and C are available at our center as well.
To ensure your comfort, we provide the option to request a clinician of a specific gender. Additionally, we can connect you with Aboriginal Sexual Health Workers or dedicated Aboriginal Health Services.
At the Sydney Sexual Health Centre, all of your STI, HIV, and hepatitis testing and treatment are provided free of charge. We are also a secondary NSP service, meaning we offer free sterile injecting equipment through a self-service dispenser.
Our Satellite clinic, located at Headspace Bondi Junction, runs a free sexual health clinic specifically for young people aged 25 and under. This clinic operates on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 pm to 6 pm, excluding public holidays.
For individuals who speak Thai or Chinese and work in the sex industry, we offer interpreter services to ensure effective communication.
If you are interested in participating in clinical research trials, our center provides opportunities for involvement.
In partnership with ACON, we offer a rapid HIV and STI testing service tailored for gay and bisexual men.
Our Counseling Unit is dedicated to providing counseling services to support your overall sexual health and well-being.
For your convenience, we also offer a self-service dispenser for free sterile injecting equipment near our reception area.
If you require language interpretation services, please contact the Sydney Health Care Interpreter Service at 9515 0030 or the Translating and Interpreting Service at 131 450.
At the Sydney Sexual Health Centre, we are committed to providing comprehensive and accessible sexual health care. Visit us today and let us take care of your testing, treatment, and management needs.

"I called the centre because I needed an urgent check up, the Call Centre person told me that based on what I mentioned I could walk in and there would be a nurse and a doctor that would be able to see me. I have JUST been there, and when the nurse called me, she told me that the wait would be 3 to 4 hours and it would be better to go to a GP ans ask for the exams I needed or she could prescribe a medicine for me for thrush from the pharmacy. She hasn't even examinated me and how can she be so sure of what me issues are?? I live far away and came to a service where it is supposed to be a reference? Also I asked her...."If I wait 3 to 4 hours for someone to examine me, can I at least go downstairs for grabbing food?" She answered "if somebody calls you and you are not there you missed your chance". So I can wait 4 hours and your clinic cannot have some decency of at least let me grab some food within 4 hours? From the moment someone inside a hospital wants to prescribe a medicine like this, advises me to LEAVR and threatenens me that I have to wait wothout food and water otherwise I miss my chance, shows the full incompetence of the service. This is the worse unwelcoming service of all. I felt like they were doing a "huge favour?". Thank God I am going to another reliable clinic cause this one is far from this."
"Thank you for your service SSHC. I am so grateful for the passion, genuine care and dedication of the staff and medical doctors. I always have a pleasant experience every time I visit this clinic. Good job to the entire team! Keep up this amazing work."
"So my appointment got mixed up and was booked on the wrong day and I really needed to see a nurse, but I was told to go home as they weren't doing walk-ins (everything was done extremely politely with great customer service and manners). However, Ruth, one of the nurses at the time, saw that I was in a predicament and came the rescue as one of her appointments finished up early. She was extremely helpful, and even though her day was already jam-packed, saw me anyway. Above and beyond."
"Tried to book an appointment for my partner, as I have done multiple times before, only to be told by the nurse that they do not feel comfortable speaking with me and it would be a breach of policy. Your policy has already been breached. My partner needed a follow-up for administering of medication, for which he has been to the clinic multiple times prior to this appointment. I have booked those appointments previously on his behalf. Allowing something in one instance, and then denying it in another is extremely poor customer service, and there is absolutely no sense of discretion. I work as an administrator in a health facility, and we use our discretion in every case. Some of our patients cannot make calls due to scheduling restrictions, some do not have access to a telephone, some cannot speak on the phone. How many patients have you turned away and refused to assist? My partner has had to take time off work for prior appointments, only to be turned away at the door because the nurse had already 'gone home'. My conversation with the nurse today has set an astounding precedent for a health clinic. Extremely poor service."
