Our hospitals are fully accredited by the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) under the National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. To ensure patient safety and quality of care, we employ various strategies and structures such as reviews, audits, surveys, and feedback from consumers, carers, and staff. Our ongoing quality and safety culture includes regular clinical indicator reviews and input from our Consumer Advisory Council.
Braeside Hospital offers comprehensive services for individuals diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses, providing relief from symptoms and pain management. Our dedicated team aims to provide physical, spiritual, and emotional comfort, skilled symptom control, education, and open communication. We also offer support to families during the final stages of illness and in the bereavement period.
Our services at Braeside Hospital include an inpatient unit, outpatient clinics, community assessments, and the PEACH program. We cater to a wide range of conditions, including stroke, joint replacement, lower limb amputation, and fractures. Our rehabilitation services focus on enabling individuals to live as independently as possible within their own environment.
In addition, we provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for patients with mental health problems, including dementia with severe behavioral disturbances. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures thorough assessment, treatment, and management with the goal of appropriate placement back into the community. Our care environment is structured and safe, with mainly single rooms, lounge/dining areas, and outdoor spaces designed to reduce confusion and monitor behaviors.
For those seeking Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC), we offer an individualized program that can be provided in your home or a community setting such as a local gym. This program offers up to eight weeks of tailored therapy to improve your ability to perform everyday tasks and achieve personal goals comfortably. STRC is a government-funded program available to individuals aged 65 and older or those eligible for Commonwealth-funded aged care services.

Reviews
"I'd like to begin by reminding everyone who's reading reviews of this hospital that many of the reviewers are likely dealing with grief, which can understandably lead to heightened emotions. This might contribute to some of the negative reviews. Thankfully, my mother was not in palliative care but rather in the older persons mental health section of the hospital. During the two months she spent there, I have only positive feedback to share about the nursing staff, doctors, and social workers who interacted with us and took care of my mother. The food quality was impressive, and the facilities were well-equipped to meet the needs of the patients. Additionally, visits with my young son were hassle-free, and the staff were incredibly accommodating in allowing us to organize a Christmas party in the BBQ area. I'm sincerely grateful for the support and care my mother received."
"I visited someone in palliative care yesterday. It is a modern clean organized hospital. Not the sterile look of other places. The nurses were helpful and respectful. They listened to our concerns with treatment for my uncle when he first arrived. I didnt see any unkindness. The food was good quality!"
"I have never in my life seen such neglect and completely idiotic response to an individual suffering. I visited this hospital with my ill uncle, whom we believed who’s battling for his life upon arrival at the hospital the nurses showed complete neglect to his situation and rather joked it off making comment like “we’ve seen worse” or “he will be able to work it off n a day or too”. Following such idiotic comment we tried to leave to go to another hospital where we were refused our right to exit the premises by very anger nurses whom original showed no care. After many discussions and arguments with the nurses and doctors we were able to get him transferred. Upon arrival of transfer the doctors stated “luckily youse got him here otherwise he would have suffered significant” which I was utterly appalled by as the nurses in this very hospital were joking about his condition. I would rather drive an extra 30 minutes to receive treatment at another hospital than to ever attend this hospital again. Absolutely disgraceful to our public health unit who in the past I have seen work hard to deliver care and it’s all been washed down the drain by a couple of “comedic nurses”. Sincerely yours - Mitch"
"Zero upon zero upon zero. The most toxic, negative and hostile environment I have ever seen. Rude nurses that haven’t the slightest clue or idea of what’s going on. My father in law barely spent the night there dehydrated and in poor health yet they didn’t even have the knowledge to connect an iv drip. Instead they supplied us with a spray bottle to “keep him hydrated”. What a joke!!!!! And when it became too much and we wanted out, we were refused and neglected. He barely spent the night and we transferred him to a REAL hospital where he is now in a stable condition and getting better. A building that deserves better and more experienced staff to cater for our people’s needs. Absolutely appalling."
"First I want to remind everyone reading reviews of this hospital that many of the reviewers are grieving and it's not unsurprising that they are very upset and I suspect this is behind at least some of the negative reviews. My mum fortunately was not in palliative care but in older persons mental health. In the 2 months she was there I have nothing but positive feedback to give to all the nursing staff, doctors and social workers that we interacted with and looked after mum. The food is high quality, the facilities were well set up to cater for the patients needs. Visits with my young son were also easy and the staff were so accommodating to let us organise a Christmas party in the BBQ area. Thank you"
