About the Business
Welcome to Yarra Bay Beach, a hidden gem located on the northern side of Botany Bay in the beautiful suburb of Phillip Bay, just a short seven-kilometer drive south of Sydney. This unique beach boasts a south-westerly orientation, setting it apart from other Sydney beaches and providing a tranquil and serene setting for visitors.
Yarra Bay Beach is the perfect destination for families and swimmers looking for a quiet and peaceful escape. With its soft sands and crystal-clear waters, it offers a safe and enjoyable experience for all. At one end of the beach, you'll find the Yarra Bay Sailing Club, adding to the picturesque view, while at the other end, the bustling port creates a fascinating contrast.
Overlooking the beach is the historic Yarra Bay House, which is occupied by the local Aboriginal Land Council. This significant landmark adds a touch of cultural richness to the area. Continuing along the grassed fore dune area, you'll come across a sandstone monument commemorating the landing of Governor Philip. This spot holds great historical importance, as it was here that indigenous people guided Governor Phillip to a water source, now known as Bunnerong Creek.
Please note that to preserve the natural beauty and cleanliness of Yarra Bay Beach, dogs, alcohol, and glass bottles are not permitted in the beach area. We kindly ask all visitors to respect these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage Beachwatch program advises caution when swimming during and for 24-hours after heavy rain, as stormwater runoff from surrounding streets may pollute the water. Your safety is our top priority, so we have provided a directory of services and groups to help you stay safe in the water.
In addition to the natural beauty and tranquility of Yarra Bay Beach, it is important to note that the NSW State Government is proposing to build a cruise ship terminal at Yarra Bay, which may impact the beach. However, Randwick Council is strongly opposed to this plan and is actively working with the Save the Bay Coalition to oppose and stop the proposal. We encourage you to find out how you can get involved in this important cause.
As you visit Yarra Bay Beach, we would like to acknowledge the Bidjigal and Gadigal Clans, who traditionally occupied this area of the Sydney Coast. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, recognizing their ongoing connection to the land.
Please keep in mind that Yarra Bay Beach is subject to occasional disruptions in the availability of our beach cameras due to factors such as sea spray, heavy rainfall, vandalism, and storm damage. While we automatically monitor the cameras, repairs to bring them back online may not always be quick and easy. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Come and experience the tranquility and natural beauty of Yarra Bay Beach. Whether you want to relax on the soft sands, take a refreshing swim, or simply enjoy the breathtaking views, this hidden gem is waiting to be discovered.

"Yarra Bay Beach has a backdrop that would make a great Jeffrey Smart painting. Once you get over the idea that beauty for beaches is linked only to unspoilt nature, it’s actually a pretty spectacular spot for a swim. On one side it’s green-tinged calm water lapping golden sand, while on the other side it’s planes, cranes, and container ships. It’s also a beach that welcomes everybody with plenty of pouty Kardashian-inspired babes sporting plenty of junk in the trunk of tiny bikinis joining families, couples, old and young, in all shapes and sizes. Dogs seem welcome, and people are friendly, including the odd cooker parking their imported American boat by the beach who complained about Government interference and wished us luck “washing the radiation off”. Parking is reasonable across a series of free four-hour car parks in the Yarra Bay Bicentennial Park serviced by a number of pathways down to the beach."
"Nice long Bay, without too many waves so good for non confident swimmers and if you want to swim laps without too much challenge. Lots of small fish round the rocks, which can be seen with a snorkel from the surface. Not super picturesque but is relaxing. No shelter from sun."
"Beach water very dirty after rain and most of the time, over crowded on hot days, no parking people fighting in the local streets for parking, large crowds of car hoons & bikers gathering and doing burnouts in the car parks day and night. Now the jet-skiers are buzzing the beaches at Yarra bay and Frenchman's Bay on hot days and more speed boats are landing on the beaches illegally, so much for the peaceful relaxing beach that it used to be many years ago. Tamarama is now more peaceful and less crowded both for parking and beach space."
"Nice sandy beach with the calm water creates an impression of the swimming pool. Great for swimming along the coast. Great outdoor rest room facilities and picnic areas near by. Lacks one star for difficulty parking."
"Absolutely love this place. It's great for young families as the surf is never too rough or dangerous for young children. There are. Always beautiful shells to collect specially in the early morning. You can also watch a spectacular sunset in the evenings."
