In 1867, Henry Sebire, his wife Martha, and their four children settled in Wandin Yallock, where they leased 80 acres of newly-surveyed Crown Land. As they began building their farm, the hamlet of Wandin was just beginning to establish itself. Alongside a small group of European families, the Sebires tirelessly cleared the land and built their homes from scratch. Henry, a former stonemason, even crafted the bricks for their first house using clay quarried from the dam. Mont De Lancey became the first brick-built house in the district, a testament to the Sebire family's ingenuity and determination.
Today, Mont De Lancey stands as a testament to the rich history of the Sebire family. Step into their shoes as you wander through the homestead, furnished with original artifacts from their era, and explore the surrounding gardens. But Mont De Lancey is more than just a homestead and museum. It's a treasure trove of forgotten crafts and trades. Witness the working blacksmiths in their purpose-built forge, shaping metal with heat and hammer. Marvel at the vintage engines and machinery housed in the Yarra Valley Vintage Machinery Preservation Society shed. And don't miss the Eastern Woodturners, who use age-old techniques to transform timber into art and functional pieces.

"Mont De Lancey is a great place to visit for a few hours rich in history. The 1hr Yesterday tour I paid $15:00 for was well worth it. Our tour guide Peter i think his name was very friendly and informative about the place and the local history. He also happily answered any questions we had. The two peas in pod cafe has some yummy snacks, light lunches and drinks reasonably priced. The museum and gift shop areas were great to browse through as well. I definitely recommend a look."
"Really beautiful place to visit, museum was interesting (well what we saw of it, was closed for the blacksmiths festival). Can see why people choose to have weddings here too. Perfect location for it. We saw the blacksmiths festival here and the forge is really well stocked, and used! We will definitely be keeping our eye out for other events here."
