Welcome to Cowan Public School, a vibrant and caring learning community located in Cowan, Australia. Our school is situated on Chandler Avenue, 1B, and is a well-established primary school that aims to provide a dynamic and nurturing learning environment for our students.

At Cowan Public School, we believe in developing happy, confident, and responsible students who are encouraged to reach their full potential. We understand the importance of a smooth transition into school, which is why we offer an Orientation Program for children enrolling in the following year. This program allows future students to experience their classroom, engage in fun and learning activities, and become familiar with the school routine. It also provides an opportunity for parents to obtain all the necessary information for their child starting school.

Our Orientation Program consists of three morning sessions that run once a week over three consecutive weeks during Term 4. We highly encourage our future students to attend all sessions, as it helps them become accustomed to the formal routine of the school and allows our teachers to assess their readiness for the following Kindergarten year. The first session also coincides with a parent information session, where parents can gain valuable insights into their child's school journey.

To further prepare your child for school, we recommend talking about what school might be like, reading together, and providing opportunities for creative play with pencils, crayons, and paper. We can also arrange a meeting with our Kindergarten teacher to address any specific concerns or queries.

At Cowan Public School, we understand the importance of early assessment and monitoring of your child's progress. That's why we participate in the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment, a comprehensive evaluation of early reading, writing, communication skills, and numeracy abilities. This assessment, developed by early learning experts in the Department of Education, provides valuable information to guide our teaching and support your child's individual needs. Parents are given feedback on these observations and are welcome to discuss them with the teacher, should they wish to do so.

As a school community, we also acknowledge and pay our respects to the traditional custodians of Terramerragal land, as well as the Elders both past and present. We believe in fostering a strong sense of cultural awareness and respect within our school.
