About the Business
Welcome to Currambena Primary & Preschool, a democratic school located on the North Shore of Sydney, Australia. With over 50 years of experience, we are proud to be a leader in innovative educational thinking. Our institution offers a truly child-centered education for both preschool and primary school children.
At Currambena, we believe in a holistic approach to learning. Our flexible curriculum focuses on developing not only academic excellence but also essential life skills. With small class sizes and high teacher-to-student ratios, we are able to provide individualized attention and create a challenging and inspiring program for each student. We encourage freedom of choice, fostering a deep and lasting love of learning in our students.
Our primary school is registered by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), and we adhere to the NESA curricula. We recently underwent an inspection in 2018, ensuring that our educational standards are of the highest quality.
In our Preschool, building relationships with children and families within the Currambena community is our main focus. We believe that play is an essential tool for learning, and our preschoolers have the opportunity to engage in a range of small group and individual activities that promote their physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and linguistic development.
If you are interested in joining our team as a casual preschool educator or primary school teacher, please email enquiries@currambena.nsw.edu.au. We welcome dedicated individuals who share our passion for child-centered education.
Currambena operates as a cooperative venture involving parents, teachers, and children. We believe that the support and energy of parents enhance the life of the school in many ways. At Currambena, all decisions that affect the school are made collectively at class, school, and council meetings. Each student, parent, and staff member has an equal vote, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in our school community.
We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Cammeraygal people, and pay respect to elders past, present, and emerging, as well as all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Join us at Currambena Primary & Preschool, where we empower children to become lifelong learners in a cooperative and nurturing environment.

"This is a great school with a very nice way of teaching. My son went to elementary school here and he thought it was wonderful. The equipment they have for the students is very good and every year a new thing is added to the school. the facilities are good, even if there are not a lot and their way of teaching amazes me. Great school."
"Nice school, heaps to do here!"
"Wonderful life skills discovering emotions and providing acceptance !"
"We have nothing but praise for this amazing school and community. My little one studied here for 4 years till she decided to go elsewhere. Her decision to make the move to a bigger school (that follows a similar philosophy to Currambena) is an example of one of the many skills and tools she learned at this school (this was a big decision for an 8 year old). The teachers are extremely dedicated to their students; during the COVID lockdown we had 100% support from the teacher at the time and my daughter thrived during this period. I was also able to eavesdrop during class time and I loved how her teacher interacted with everyone equally and gave enough one-on-one support to each student. The school is a small, intimate one and this allows for everyone to know each other, have friendships all across the years and build a sense of belonging. These kids have incredible empathy towards others and a sense of accountability which I dont see as much among non-currambena kids. They are each others' cheer leading squad!!!! super supportive and encouraging, which is beautiful to witness. we will always be grateful to Currambena staff, teachers, parents and students for the beautiful experience we had during our time here."
"With a very different approach to education which Currambena call Democratic Education, my most striking observation is the in regard to the high maturity and thoughtfulness of the children that they produce. One of my children attended their preschool program for two years, and while we opted for more conventional schools for senior years I can definitely see the benefits of Currambena's approach."
