Allow us to introduce ourselves. I am Tamarin, a mum to 4 young children, a business owner, and someone with a strong passion for child restraints. My journey into car seat safety started many years ago when I worked as a nanny. Even then, I noticed how many young children were in incorrectly installed, misused, and even expired car seats. This sparked my interest and led me to become a certified car seat technician.

My personal experience with car seat safety became even more significant when I had my first child in 2008. Like any new parent, I was overwhelmed with choices and relied on the advice of a shop assistant when purchasing my daughter's car seat. It wasn't until months later that I discovered the car seat was not suitable for a newborn and was installed incorrectly. I had unknowingly put my precious newborn at risk.

This experience motivated me to educate myself further and become a restraint fitter. I started helping friends install their car seats and offering advice to people I met in baby shops. My passion for car seat safety earned me the nickname "the car seat police" among my family and friends.

Sadly, a recent study found that over 80% of child restraints are either installed incorrectly or greatly misused. This statistic is alarming, and I am determined to turn it around. All children up to the age of 7 MUST be safely fastened in the correct restraint for their age and size. It is our mission to ensure that every child is protected while traveling.

Did you know that car seats expire? Child restraint manufacturers do not recommend using restraints that are over 10 years old. Over time, the materials degrade, which could impair the seat's ability to perform in an accident. Additionally, older seats may not have all the safety features of the latest Australian Standard. Therefore, it is crucial to only consider child restraints that are less than 10 years old and comply with Australian Standard 1754.

A child restraint cannot be checked visually, so it is essential to know its history, including any accidents it may have been involved in. As a general rule, only use a second-hand child restraint from someone you know and trust. After all, your most precious cargo is riding inside.
