"Historical building used for accomodation of military pesonell and families. Relocated from one of the forts to the north west of the defence road. Small, locked and empty when we visited 6-Apr-23. (Information Centre was at Quarantine Store). Its the end of public access by car for the Defence Rd at this point. There is a small car park. If you want to see the remaining points of interest to the the north west of the defence road, you'll need to walk or catch the shuttle bus."
"A pleasant and historic point of interest at Fort Nepean. The Gunner's Cottage is not far at all from the carpark and can be one of the first or last stops on the walk. Plenty of information boards and generally quite interesting."
"Very disappointing a old house in a car park. I suppose a visit is required if you attend here. its a great spot to park the Car if you plan on spending time here.there are tables and smelly toilets."
"Was abit disappointed that we had to walk 4km to the forts. Drove abit of a distance to explore the forts but it’s either wait for the bus or walk which I wasn’t really expecting. :( Not friendly for young kids who can’t walk. I believe if I was able to make it to the fort it would have been fun"
"The Gunner’s Cottage is the cabin located at the right hand side of the entrance to the Walter Pisterman Heritage Walk. The cottage is a great information point for visitors to the Point Nepean National Park. Visitors can find many information pamphlets in Gunner’s Cottage, such as the hard copy of the Point Nepean National Park visitor guide and some other self-guided brochures of the Point Nepean National Park. Parking is available just opposite Gunner’s Cottage across the Defence Road. A hop-on hop-off shuttle bus service between Fort Nepean and the Quarantine Station has a designated stop at the Gunner’s Cottage. The shuttle bus service operates from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm daily, except Christmas Day. Tickets can be purchased from the driver (cash or card accepted). Timetable can be found in the attached photos and at the Point Nepean Information Centre (near the Quarantine Station)."
