Reviews
"A reminder to check recent reviews before dining somewhere after some time away - as this place is not the same as before. I came in specifically for the pillowy pan fried pork buns, they have changed them, the dough seems different and they are fried upside down so if you love these as much as I do, you won’t find them here. Food still tasted good. The menus require some updating, ripped, dog eared, pages missing and the pricing requires updating as my receipt showed higher prices. No water at the table, they didn’t ask if I wanted a drink, no condiments with my dumplings. You have to ask for everything so I do think they should just make it self serve (which I would not have minded!). Staff were polite but lacked training on a basic hospitality order of service."
"The beef noddles taste horrible. The soup has zero beef taste, basically water n add in some colour that look spicy. Im a chinese, so i know what a beef noddles should taste like. This is totally not even up to a street food standard."
"We came on a very busy night so there was a bit of a wait for our mains to arrive. I was also quite frustrated by the fact the adjacent table received their full order before us despite the fact that had arrived 5-10 minutes later. There’s really no excuse for this and not a good look. However, despite all that the food itself was divine. The dumplings were juicy and packed a punch whilst the fried rice and prawn noodle dish were flavourful. The waiters also shouted us a couple of refreshing drinks which I thought was a nice touch to make up for probably a bit of disorganisation in the kitchen."
"This place is no longer called taste of shanghai because they are not part of the franchisee anymore. The menu they use still says taste of shanghai though, but the food has changed. The xiao long baos here are still good but think their steamed vegetarian dumplings are now westernized. The staff here are very polite and nice."
"An alright meal at Taste of Shanghai. The food came out quick after we ordered. We got the xia long bao and the pan fried buns. These were good and paired well with vinegar. The braised pork was saucy and savoury. The fried rice and vegetables were fine. The bamboo shoots were just ok and were not too fresh. However, we did find the portions to be quite small. Moreover, the food came at random intervals. For instance we got the braised pork as our first dish and the bamboo last which should be an entree dish. There are also better Shanghainese restaurants around like in Ashfield."
