"Running Science is a valuable resource for the inner west, and Sydney more generally. To me this is not a store, but a hub for the local active community. It’s a place where you can go for treatment, advice, even consolation - and yes, shoes. I add this last, because my first interaction with the store 6 years ago showed me that this was not just a shoe shop. Fletch tentatively conceded that, yes, he did have the model I was looking for. "I could not run three months ago with out tearing my calf (5 in total). I had been experiencing calf tears since 2016 and pretty much gave up running as it was effecting my mountaineering training. I had signed up to do 50 km adventure run in Tassie. I really didn’t know how I was going to complete this task. So I went to Running Science. I didn’t believe I could fix this issue. I met Phil who explained that I needed to do a lot of specific strength training exercises. My age increased my risk of calf tears and also the fact that I lacked any base running training. My running style also increased my risk. You are never taught how to run. Phil will teach you how to run. These methods decrease impact on your calf’s. I worked with my exercise physio and physio to strength my calves. In my training I never did more than 11kms running with the program Phil made up for me. I ended up dropping down to the 101 relay as one of my mates had an injury and I took her place. We came first in the womens 101 relay and I ran 25 kms of tough terrain with 795 ascent and 811 descent. I just want to thank Phil for his help and Fletch for listening to me and giving some brilliant tips. These guys are amazing. It is just wonderful to be able to run again."
