"Pie in the sky is a friendly restaurant all the way in Olinda with amazing food. Took my parents and partner up there for a trip and I was satisfied with their food and service. If you are looking for a great place to take your family on a trip and need a place to eat, I highly recommend pie in the sky and coming up to Olinda."
"Pie in the Sky offers a quintessential Aussie pie experience in the heart of the picturesque Dandenong Ranges. The restaurant exudes a warm and folksy charm with its cosy weatherboard cafe and bakery setup, retaining its original setting that adds to the overall appeal. The pies are undoubtedly the stars of the show here, and rightly so. Handmade with quality ingredients, they have earned the restaurant well-deserved fame for their award-winning creations. The diverse range of exotic pies on offer is impressive, providing customers with an opportunity to try unique flavors and combinations. During our visit, my wife and I tried the Burgandy Pie and the Beef Rendang Pie. While both pies tasted good and were satisfying, we felt that they didn't quite reach the level of exceptional we were hoping for. Nevertheless, the overall dining experience was pleasant, and we appreciated the effort put into crafting these pies. The interior ambiance with its rich timber floor and wall creates a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, perfectly suited to enjoying a comforting meal. However, it's worth noting that the popularity of this restaurant is evident in the long queue for takeaway orders. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, dining in might be a better option as the takeaway prices are lower. The staff was friendly and attentive, which added to the positive experience. We felt the service was efficient despite the busy environment. In conclusion, Pie in the Sky is a popular spot in the Olinda area for a reason. Their commitment to traditional Aussie values and dedication to using quality ingredients are commendable. Although the pies we tried were not mind-blowing, they were still delicious and worth a visit. If you find yourself in the Dandenong Ranges and have a hankering for a good ol' Aussie pie, Pie in the Sky won't disappoint. Just be prepared for the possibility of a wait during busy times."
"Called here 2 days in a row. Coffee excellent, no surprise, vanilla slice on visit 1 perfect….on second visit I had just cycled up The Wall so needed sustenance so went for an award winning Aussie pie which was delicious and hit the hunger spot before my ride back down the mountain. There heating was off but that was a minor point….great spot."
"I'm not sure where (or when?) the hype for this place comes from. How old are those awards? The pie was exceedingly poor, with lots of filler and gelatine - exactly the texture I hate about cheap pies, not what you'd expect from a pie demanding $7.50 of your hard-earned. And the pastry was really not overly good - certainly not very robust either. The Vanilla slice was merely... average, and the passion-fruit glaze was unwelcome on my palette when I'm buying a vanilla slice for a particular reason. Not a fan. Other people in my group had similar thoughts on their food choices, despite "gold medal" being emblazoned on many options... I seriously doubt that! I've visited many, many bakeries all over SA and Victoria, and in my experience this is well down the bottom of my list of worst bakery food. And for the price, probably the biggest rip-off of those. You can't charge premium prices AND cut costs: it will leave more than one bad taste in customers' mouths."
"Pie in the Sky Visited on 20/3/2023 Due to the topography of the sloppping land, there are some steps to go up the shop, which has a L-shape verandah for outdoor dining. The interior has rich timber floor and wall, and consists of three levels. A booking was made for our group of14 people, just in case the pie shop was packed. It was an ill-founded concern. Only a few people presumbly tourists were gathering around looking at big menu board on the wall above the front counter, deciding what to order. There was a good variety of exotic pies. The takeaway prices are lower than dine-in prices. My wife ordered a Burgandy Pie while mine was a Beef Rendang Pie. As a critical pie lover and eater, I passed the puff pastry for the pie casing, but failed both in terms of taste and fillimg texture. I could not taste a drop of Burgany in the Burgandy Pie, and the Rendang Pie is more like having a chillie stew filling. Technically speaking, rendiang is a dry curry; it was not meant to have excessive gravy."
