"This place is a little gem in the Waterloo/Redfern region. The prices for fruit and veg are considerably better than the major three (Coles, Woolworths and Aldi). In fact I have often been surprised with how low this IGA can drop their prices for fruit and veg compared to the competition. When they discount items in the shop, they are reasonable discounts (50% for example) and not some token B.S. gesture of 5% and so on. I've often ended up in this IGA simply by accident (if I've wanted to stop at the green grocer further up the road and there was no parking and there was parking out the front of IGA for example), but my last experience was so good (and so bad, which I will explain shortly) that my attitude has become "I have to shop here more often". I now want to shop here simply more often because the prices are much better and the selection is good, but not fully to my expectations (no pickled Matjes white herring, no chicken livers-giblets-hearts or similar epicurean delights compared to Coles or Woolworths), but hey I'm probably expecting too much because this is Rabbitohs heartland (brain death territory) where the local inhabitants exist on a diet of Huttons Footy Franks, the ubiquitous Ham & Pineapple Pizza (loaded high-fructose corn syrup) and lots of soft-drinks, but hey who am I to complain because this keeps the staff at oncology hospitals busy and in a job which is good for our economy. On the downside, there is no off-street parking, so parking your car on "busy Botany Road", can be a bit of a hit and miss affair, but most of the time I have been able to park. Some of the customers seem to suffer serious mental health issues (I did warn you that this is Rabbitohs heartland), so as you are poking around the shop here or there don't be too surprised if you bump into someone talking to themselves or having a psychotic episode. I suspect that there is probably a psychiatric hospital in the vicinity which explains this kind of behavior and why the prices are so low. If I was to criticize this IGA store I will say, that I bought one cauliflower which was advertised in their catalogue for $2.00 which I later discovered when I arrived at home that I was charged $3.00 and more importantly 4Kg of tomatoes sitting on the bottom of my plastic shopping bag had two very heavy cabbages placed on top (I didn't want/expect tomato juice), but hey this is Rabbitohs territory so I'm expecting too much. Ultimately I blame myself, because I should have checked my receipt in the shop and paid attention to what the cashier was doing with my tomatoes, but I wasn't feeling the best at the time so my mind was on my ailment and not on the task at hand. Next time I will pay more attention to what I am doing. So this a great supermarket to visit and I can highly recommend it as long as you avoid eye contact with customers who make the impression that they belong in a psychiatric hospital or prison or more likely both, but hey this probably explains the best prices in Sydney."
"I paid $10 for an umbrella that broke within 15 minutes. This is typical of the kind of shoddy $2 shop type items they sell here. However, their actual groceries are reasonably priced and have ok specials at times."
"I really like this supermarket. Sometimes there is really cheap fruit which is great. The salads arent as cheap but fresh and delicious every time."
"Very rude staff and prices are not IGA prices or price matched as their advertising suggest on TV with Kenny etc. Don't FALL for the hype. Shop at another IGA or if you shop at this store I guarantee you won't shop at another IGA EVER again."
"3.9 - Wandered in here on a Friday night and really liked how bright and clean the store was. I walked up and down the aisles and found a lot of interesting products. There's also heaps of different nibblies in the deli, interesting teas etc. I would have bought more items if I lived nearby but I was going to dinner with a friend. I noticed there were fresh juices (50 cents more than Coles at $6.99). Friendly service at the cashier."
