About the Business
Welcome to The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts, located at Exhibition Walk, 48 in Clayton, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to acknowledge and pay respects to the Elders and Traditional Owners of the land on which our venues stand. Our center is a home for dreaming, storytelling, song, and ceremony, providing a safe and exciting place for community, creativity, discovery, and hope.
One of our highlights is The Count's, Melbourne's newest jazz club. Here, you can experience live acts ranging from afro-beat to RnB, blues, Latin jazz, and more. It's the perfect destination for music enthusiasts and those looking for a vibrant night out.
At Monash University Performing Arts Centres, we strive to create a space where performers and audiences can come together and share the magic of the arts. Our center is a hub for creativity, discovery, and community, offering various spaces for events and performances.
If you're looking for a premiere venue to host an extraordinary event, we have you covered. Choose from our selection of venues, including the Alexander Theatre, Robert Blackwood Hall, David Li Sound Gallery, The Count's, or the George Jenkins Theatre. Each space is equipped to make your event a memorable one.
In preparation for the upcoming Melbourne International Jazz Festival performance on October 20th, the award-winning Monash Art Ensemble (MAE) is tuning their strings to showcase spectacular pieces of Australian music at the Alexander Theatre. This performance will feature a premiere work by Freedman-fellow nominated saxophonist Cheryl Durongpisitkul and a piece by ARIA-Winning artist Andrea Keller.
We are honored to have Paul Grabowsky AO as part of our institution. With almost 50 years of experience in art-music, he is one of the most significant musicians in the Australian musicscape. When he's not playing the piano, conducting, or producing music, he is a professor at Monash University, nurturing the next generation of talented musicians.
During 2020, MLIVE presented a series of online shows called the Sound Gallery Sessions. Here, we have compiled a selection of highlights featuring talented artists such as Thando, Rita Satch, Melbourne Amplified Strings, Allara and Brent Watkins (Culture Evolves), Allysha Joy, Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier, Mama Alto, Gordon Koang, Yasmin Rowe, Kylie Auldist, Hoang Pham, Lior, and Paul Grabowsky, and Flinders Quartet.
We are proud to have hosted remarkable performances by renowned theater companies. ILBIJERRI Theatre Company, the longest-established First Nations theater company in Australia, opened their production "The Season" featuring Lisa Maza at the Alexander Theatre in August 2018. Additionally, Kyle Page and Amber Haines' dance company Dancenorth presented their captivating piece "Dust" as part of the MLIVE program in March 2019. Furthermore, the MLIVE program in 2019 featured the Norwegian Dance company Panta Rei Danseteater, showcasing "Lullaby" and "I Wish Her Well," with Artistic Director Anne Holck Ekenes leading the way.
We are also excited to have featured Allysha Joy as part of our Sound Gallery Sessions live streaming series in April of this year. Her talent and artistry were truly remarkable.

"What a lovely place for school shows and outside entertainers. Parking was bit tight but managed. Inside the theatre, seats were comfortable as show was for 2 hours. Loved Ian Potter Centre."
"Nice venue, tap payment at refreshments bar, perfectly clean, good security, well organised staff, parking paid daytime but free "after hours" (Night? Outside University hours? Please see their website to clarify.) Currently (July 2021) masks required inside as per Victorian Covid regulations."
