Welcome to Melbourne French Theatre, located in Carlton on Canning Street. As an establishment and point of interest, we are dedicated to bringing the vibrant world of French theatre to Australia.

At Melbourne French Theatre, we believe in the power of cultural exchange and artistic expression. Founded in 1977 by Michael Bula and David Gorrie, we are a non-profit incorporated association and a Registered Charity. We are also a tax deductible gift recipient under the patronage of the French Ambassador to Australia.

Our mission is to serve as a window into French theatrical literature and performance, while fostering a cross-fertilization of Australian and French-speaking cultures through theatre. We achieve this by presenting 1 to 2 plays a year, usually in May and sometimes in September. These performances showcase the richness and diversity of French theatre, offering audiences an immersive experience that transports them to the heart of French culture.

In addition to our main stage productions, we also offer a unique opportunity for schools across Victoria to engage with French theatre. Whether it's us bringing our productions to your school or your school coming to us, we are dedicated to bringing the magic of French theatre to young audiences. Our plays such as "Le Petit Nicolas," "Courtelignes," and "Le Petit Prince" are not only entertaining but also educational, providing students with a valuable insight into French language and culture.
