"The best and possibly only good thing about this school is its marketing. They sell a wonderful idea. However, this is just a mirage. I have finally secured a transfer for my daughter, although not before she sustained a ruptured eardrum and a head concussion. Despite the "anti-bullying" policy, these very serious injuries were brushed under the carpet. However, even if discipline was properly managed, the academic aspect of the school is so substandard, I fear for the first cohort of students sitting the leaving cert next year. There doesn't seem to be many days when my daughter has every class, there is always a teacher missing, if not two or three. During covid, when classes were online, the school took a "mental health" day off-every single week. Also, when the school is closed due to unforeseen circumstances, which is quite regularly, the missing days are never recovered. On the contrary, the school always seems to find an opportunity to take yet more time off. In an ideal world, there would be enough secondary school places to choose from, and if a school underdelivers, parents would be able to switch schools. Unfortunately, that is not the case. My advice for any parent thinking of sending their children to this school would be to not be fooled by the clever marketing. Don't take my word for it, speak with other parents. I can assure you that the more parents you speak with the more horror stories you'll hear. My daughter went to an educate together primary school and I expected the same high standard of education she received there. I strongly believe in the educate together ethos, however, this school has been very disappointing. As a parent who cares about the wellbeing, safety, and education of their child i've felt unheard and derided. The board of management wouldn't engage with me when my daughter was being bullied to the point of sustaining physical injuries. However, they were very quick to issue a barring letter, without hearing my case, when the principal decided that he didn't want to deal with me any longer. I was barred because I wanted to discuss how students had been given a mock exam with sample answers a week before the exam. I am an educator, and I was quite shocked when my daughter told me that her Spanish teacher had given her the junior cert mock exam and sample answers for the exam she would be sitting the following week. Despite my disappointment with the school, I initially assumed this had been an oversight by a very inexperienced teacher. I tried to arrange an appointment with the year head to request a new mock paper to be sourced. Obviously, having the questions and answers for the exam completely defeats the purpose of doing the mocks. However, I had said meeting with the principal, who instead of the dealing with the situation barred me. He completely dismissed my complaint as "frivolous", reprimanded me for daring to question "his staff" and laughed at my intention to take the issue further. It is a sad state of affairs how much of a close circuit schools are, and this one is particularly close. The principal is married to the deputy, and of course, is the secretary of the board of management. The school is not under the VEC and it is nearly impossible to escalate any issues that may arise. I attempted to get a meeting with the board of management for months, however I only heard from them when I was barred for trying to highlight a very important issue regarding my daughter's education. Ever since, on the rare occasion I've had to collect my daughter from school, mostly for medical appointments, the principal has come out to ask me to leave the premises, threatening me with the police for trespassing. I am the sole carer of a minor. I am an educated woman who has been treated like a drunk parent without custody. One would expect a school principal to treat parents better, even if they were drunk and had no custody, which is certainly not my case. Ultimately, I would strongly advise anyone considering this school to make alternative arrangements."
