"Beautiful place. Lovely walk, scattered seating for your weary legs along the walk. Lovely kept area. This was our first visit, and I will definitely be going back."
"I walk here every day and it is so beautiful and peaceful, alas, at weekends not so pleasant, cyclists who do not alert you,its their divine right these cyclists need to remember the greenaway is for everyone, people walking their dogs without leads or muzzles and not bagging up the poop, small minority but making it uncomfortable for other people."
"My favorite walk in all of Cork. The views are always amazing, especially the sunsets. Good for walks, runs, biking, even picnics."
"Sir Francis Drake in 1589, having a small squadron of five ships of War, was chased into Cork Harbour, by a superior fleet of Spaniards; he ran into Crosshaven and moored his ships behind the shelter of Currabinny hill in a safe basin now called Drake's Pool. The Spaniards sailed up the harbour of Cork and were surprised not to see the ships they had just before chased into it; thus, having missed their prey, they returned without doing Sir Francis the least harm. Ever since the place has been called Drake's Pool."
"If you are driving, or using the public walkway, from Carrigaline to Crosshaven you will come to a curved section of the river where many yachts are moored. Using the car park here and walking in either direction you will be rewarded by spectacular views of yachts against a woodland backdrop. This is the area known as Drake's Pool. According to local folklore in the late 1580's Sir Francis Drake with a small fleet of five ships was chased into Cork harbour by the Spanish Armada. Drake sailed two miles up the secondary channel - the River Owenabue where he found anchorage in a secluded location. The Armada went up the main channel - the River Lee and failed to find him. The place where Drake found shelter has subsequently been known as Drake's Pool and today many yachts are always moored there. Being both inside the harbour and well up-river, it offers complete protection from all weather conditions."
