"I rented this castle for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday. It's in an absolutely beautiful location, the facilities are pretty much ideal for this kind of event; the castle and grounds are adult- and child-friendly, and the owner (who lives in the grounds, but away from the castle itself) is absolutely friendly and helpful. We've been back three times, but still didn't get haunted by Lady Roche. So we'll have to keep coming."

"What we loved: -great big old castle to run around in, -plenty of cupboards to have a sticky beak, -helpful host, -obvious positive aura from all the weddings that took place here. What we didn't like: -No decent wifi or cell signal, -kinda spooky rooms/halls after hearing about "Gladys" the guest who died on site and now haunts the building."

"There are signs before you drive in saying private property. It says to call for a tour but as tourists ourselves from Canada we do NOT have cellular service .. We parked, there was a gentleman on the phone that then walked into the castle. We saw no other signs of .. life .. so we left But.. it is beautiful !"

"A most fabulous venue, steeped in the history of many centuries but with every convenience to make for an unbeatable venue for our daughters wedding, two families and many friends accommodated in the luxurious castle bedrooms and the extra dormitory and cottage accommodation, great parking facilities, fully stocked kitchen to cater for a crowd and beautiful reception rooms and bar, the good weather meant we could use the terrace as an outdoor entertainment area with the most stunning views. The gardens are prefect for an outdoor ceremony or just a relaxing stroll, many beautiful mature trees and flowers and the coach house complete with mezzanine, kitchen were perfect for housing the wedding dinner.Our host and proprietor Patrick, has a wealth of historical knowledge about his beloved Blackwater Castle and was quietly on hand to help with any practical problems, all in all we could not have asked for a better venue for beauty, privacy and hospitality, I would highly recommend it to anyone, unforgettable place."
