"Went for a Sunday roast with the family - food was just fine and service pretty bad. The waitress first took drink orders but completely ignored one of us. Our starters then took forever to come out and were pretty small for the price (£6-9 pp). For our mains, 2 got beef roasts, 1 chicken and 2 pork with cauliflower cheese. The beef roasts were 90% fat and only one tiny slice of beef - when mentioned to the waitress, she stood there and asked what we wanted her to do about it?! We asked for some more beef to make up for it but it came out the same. Chicken and pork were nice but yorkshires overdone and veg a mix of undercooked / weirdly seasoned (cabbage made excessively sweet) on all plates. This also applied to the cauliflower cheese which had hard pieces of cauliflower in a cold cheese sauce. Its not the worst I've had but for all the hype around it and the extortionate prices, it's just not great."
"Came for a lovely meal Friday Evening, what can we say lovely warm welcome, excellent accommodating service from all staff. Gorgeous cosy atmosphere inside and outside, Food presentation and portions were exceptional, nice and hot and really fresh and tasty. Came for another visit Saturday afternoon had some snacks between us once again so tasty and great value for money sat by the open log fire, the decor is beautiful the place is quirky and really clean absolute credit to the village. We have never been before, we are not local but will definetly be back in a whim! Thank you to all of you for making our weekend really enjoyable."
"Spent two nights in the premium double here and ate here the first night. Upon arrival, all of the FOH and bar staff were welcoming and the place was beautifully decorated. Felt comfortable from minute one. Quickly and easily checked in and shown to our room by the manager Emily, who couldn't have been more helpful. The room was stunning, too. Had a table booked for dinner close to the end of service; staff were again on form and attentive without making us feel like we needed to rush. Between two of us we had the beef Wellington and pork belly dishes; both cooked perfectly. Cocktails were on point too. Wholly recommended, go out of your way for this place. Not just your standard village pub with a few rooms."
"We had the beef Sunday dinner & fish & chips. Both very good. Service was prompt and provided with a smile. The restaurant was busy which gave it a 'buzz' and added to the atmosphere. Good coffee. Would definitely return next time we're in the area."
"Stayed a night with friends for a evening at Castle Cave. Lovely place, beautiful rooms all different country themes, nice selection of teas and coffee, well laid out, clean and uplifting. Nice outdoor area with open fire and undercover very relaxing. Staff very helpful and great big English breakfast. Thank you"
