"The staff were great realy lively but I'm sorry to say that I thought the dining room was not what I expected it looked very worn out . The food was not up to restaurant standard I had the fish and it was a piece of white fish in a batter no taste and not very well presented. The room was clean however the standard of work in the room was rubbish as the bathroom door face was hanging on by a couple of nails the bathroom wasn't very inviting. Ii was a big company I would be shocked how a very historic place like the bear is allowed to fall into such a poor condition."

"Large, spacious room with an enormous bed, clean, white bedding and towels. Very warm and a lovely, large bathroom. Carpets look tired but it was clean. The breakfasts were large and very tasty with lots of choice. The evening meals are extremely good and the staff were friendly and helpful."

"We had our wedding reception here on Friday 20/01/2023 and it was AMAZING! Ben, Jayne and the team all went above and beyond and made our day so special, the bear has always had a special meaning to us so it was important to us to have our day here and it didn’t disappoint when I say nothing was to much trouble i truly mean it, all staff was friendly and welcoming and Ben and Jayne was beyond accommodating, they work so well as a team! And are such genuine lovely people, I’m not very good at writing reviews but bottom line we HIGHLY recommend the bear and will be regular guests! We can’t wait to come back and see everyone ♥️ thank you for Everything you all done for us. Mr and Mrs Lewis x"

"Great staff , great food and the manager Ben is Super Helpful and clearly this has rubbed off on the staff who are also Super Helful , from Check in ( who had only just joined) to Ryan on the bar , we were made to feel welcome. The company however needs to spend some money on the property, carpets are approaching dangerous and the rooms need upgrades, this is a beautiful pub with great staff let down by a huge lack of investment! We would pay more for it if the quality of the building was improved"

"Had a great experience dining here this evening! Went out for a last minute meal with my sister and parents and was impressed from the start. We had to change our original booking from 3 people to 4 which was no trouble for the staff at all. Our waitress a young red haired lady was friendly, well mannered and professional. To top things off we were all very satisfied with our meals and the service. For the price I had one of the best burgers I have ever had and highly recommend the Bear to anyone. We will definitely be going back."
