"Love coming here for a walk with my little boy and dog. Very peaceful. Love the history of the Romans and being so close to home it's nice. We always play gladiators in the amphitheatre which is fun. Two minutes across the road is the Roman town of Calleva as well so it's well worth a visit. Sadly there is no ruined buildings to see unless there are excavations happening which is really good if you can get to see them. We visited a couple of years back when they were happening and they had set up a viewing platform for the public which was excellent. My only small niggle is the amphitheatre has got quite overgrown on the ring walls and around the outside of the town walls which means you have to walk along the path on top of the walls which means you don't get to see the walls themselves much. This could be dramatically improved for the public by cutting back as much as possible the bushes and brambles so you could appreciate the workmanship and height of the walls that remain. It doesn't detract from the lovely walk though. The main car park always has plenty of space and you can always park just around the corner by the lovely church if not. The church is also a nice little visit. Great place."
"Not much to see but amazing to think of the history of it all. Good for a walk but it's a long walk around! Not much shade except at the beginning with lined trees, so if it's hot be ready for it! Car park is great and easy to find. The church is gorgeous. Amphitheatre unfortunately does not look much like one anymore but still pretty imposing and amazing to think how many people managed it managed to seat. There are many animals along the walk and lovely views. Lots of sheep! Even saw a few Al pacas (I think!) which was surprising and fun. Overall would recommend the visit but don't expect to see too much. Apparently the West gate is the best preserved."
"The floor of the amphitheatre has been restored, but the area where the seating for the spectators hasn't. If you look at the information board, you can see what it might have looked like during Roman times. There is a free car park to the west of the remains of the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum. You can follow the old Roman Wall around the north of the town to get to the amphitheatre on the east. The paths are okay unless there's been heavy rain. Worth a look if you're interested in Anglo-Roman history."
"a magic place! you stand in the middle of the past of 1700 years old! around you there are ruins of the walls. its a shame no reconstruction of seating was done. i would like to sit there and there could be modern performance, it could earn money from visitors if any life was returned into this wonderful historical-natural theatre."
"Large Roman amphitheatre in the middle of nowhere. Interesting, obviously there was the entertainment for a large settlement. What remains is the grassy circle and steep sides where the crowd sat.15 to 20 minute walk to the site from the car park"
