"Very excited to come here given all the hype from people who had visited their other chains around the UK or had tried the home by Nico. As expected on opening weekend the restaurant was completely packed including the bar area which was nice to see in Aberdeen! The idea is you have 6 courses as a tasting menu which follows a set theme. This theme changes every 6 weeks from what I understand. There is a regular menu and a vegetarian menu - the good thing is you can pick and choose between the menus so if you don't like one of the courses you can switch it with the vegetarian menu and vice versa. You have the option of going with a wine pairing with the courses of food. Service staff were very friendly and had lots of work to do as there were many courses to deliver. The theme we had was 'the chipper' a brilliant take on fish and chips but much more refined. You had the option For our meal we went with the 'snack' which was an appetiser of sourdough bread and oyster butter along with smoked cod croquettes. I'd say the croquettes were one of the best things we ate so would recommend this. Overall the food was beautifully presented and a lot of effort went into the menu as well as creation of sauces and emulsions on the plate. My favourite course was probably the fish supper as this was the kind of thing you'd get from a very good seafood restaurant. There were smoke effects in the fifth dish which added to the aura of the restaurant. The final course was a dessert which was famously created in Aberdeen, the deep fried Mars bar (I believe the Carron in Stonehaven but don't quote me on that) - this was an excellent take with chocolate pave, and a first for me which was an irn bru sorbet. I tip my hat to you six by Nico as this was a very well thought out dessert. As this was quite an expensive restaurant in comparison to others in Aberdeen I'll be a little more critical. Improvements can be made in cohesion between the courses, there were times you were waiting two to three times longer between certain courses. At a point we thought we had been forgotten about and got our courses in the wrong order. This is however a brand new restaurant with new staff and you expect an adjustment period. I would say the manager on the floor was excellent and seemed to be aware of all the customers and was directing the team effectively considering how busy it was. The other room for improvement would be better ventilation. As nice a touch it was having the smoky effects with the food we felt the smoke lingered and left you with an unsettled feeling in the stomach. Overall I'm very glad we went, would recommend to others and I'm looking forward to finding out what the next theme will be."
"Dinner for 4, with the Japanese tasting menu and matched wines. The food was really good, more influenced by Japan than truly authentic. Portions were just right, not too big and not too small. The drinks were well matched. Service was friendly, knowledgable and relaxed. All in it was a little over £100 per person which is the only draw back."
"Great place to spend quality time with friends! We've been as party of four. One of us has shellfish allergy and the restaurant accommodated our needs no problem. Wine was excellent. Happy to see Aberdeen getting such a lovely place to dine. Cannot wait what's next! Bogdan took care of us very well! Thank you!"
"I was very impressed and surprised by Six by Nico, to start with I was very impressed with the presentation of the food which was amazing, and secondly I have always been quantity rather than quality eater so wasn't to sure if I would be full enough after visiting, so was very surprised when I came away feel very full and happy with myself. And the restaurant is very modern and bright in side and the staff were truly amazing and knew the dishes inside out and were very happy to answer any questions you have about the menu. And there were also vegan and vegetarian menu's to pick from. Would highly recommend going if you haven't been and personally can't wait to go again myself."
