"Used to be great but sad to say it’s all gone a bit wrong, maybe chefs spending too much time selling poor standard (but expensive!!) meals & bakes to shops & garages? Don’t get me wrong it’s not horrid, it’s just pricey for something you’d get at any microwave friendly food chain. Staff better this time, quite rude last time we were there as they “close in an hour and a half”. Had takeaway here too during lockdown and disappointing wasn’t even close, overcooked dry chicken & worse chips than the frozen chips I make in the oven at home!!"
"Been to Jaffs a number of times over the years and always enjoyed it. Last couple of times though I have been disappointed. Booked a table tonight for 6.30pm when we arrived we were informed that four of the choices were no longer on the menu because they had run out. Ordered the Jaffs steak burger with pulled bbq pork and smoked cheese. My husband had the same. There was no pulled pork on it just a piece of fatty bacon. The burger as well was very greasy felt like it had been fried. The coleslaw that came with it appeared shop bought. The ramekin was half full of watery mayo. Afterwards my daughter had biscoff cookie dough and ice cream. The ice cream scoop was more like a half scoop. At £7.50 it was pretty poor. Can't fault the staff in anyway. They are friendly and pleasant. Pretty disappointed overall."
"Good food and pleasant staff. Only downside was there was practically no lights on and the heating wasn't on so it was pretty chilly. Just the cost of living crisis raising it's hand, such a shame for all these small pubs and restaurants. Would recommend the food though, just hope all these lovely places survive the crisis as it would be a real shame if they didn't."
"Been a few times over the years and normally very good but it has gone downhill since last time we visited. I used the online enquiry service to book table. Never got a response so called them and got a table. Telephone conversation was difficult and I had to steer the conversation as I got one word responses. It wasn't busy but service was very slow and staff were polite but felt like they were "going through the motions". My wife had the Haddock and Prawn Mornay and said it wasn't as fresh as it could have been. Myself and daughter had highland chicken burger which basically meant deep fried chicken until it didn't look or taste like chicken. High restaurant prices for sub par food. We won't be hurrying back."
"Booked a table and met up with some friends for dinner in what was a pleasant upstairs dining environment. The restaurant was quiet and plenty staff in attendance. We were offered drinks on seating, which arrived promptly. The draught Guinness was a good pint. Like most of our party, I had Haddock and chips for main. Haddock was fresh and cooked pretty much to perfection, though the batter was a bit on the soft side. Chips and peas, though presented separately were standard fare. Vegetarian options are pretty limited as one of our party discovered. Sweets didn't live up to the main course as they lacked flavour. There are several first class local ice creams, but the pink one accompanying my lemon meringue pie was not one of them. The price for the meal was considered very reasonable by all. The rating of four stars is largely due to the quality of the Haddock, it's cooking, the general ambience, the cost and the service. This could become 5 stars by addressing the vegetarian options and the sweet menu."
