"I have to say that I am very disappointed in my stay with you at Rothwell House Hotel. Firstly I booked a family room for plenty of space for myself and my partner and when we made our way to the room we looked at the bed to find it had previously been slept in and not changed by housekeeping!! When we spoke with the reception desk we were given a different room, downsized to a standard double!? But the bad experience doesn't end there!!! Our replacement room was cold with old single glazed windows, and no heating working in either the bedroom or bathroom and with the only oil filled radiator in the bedroom infront of the windows the bathroom was constantly cold. Moving on to the room itself it was dirty with dust around the bottom of the furniture, dust layered in the curtains and cobwebs hanging between the curtains and the bed!! The bed itself had a broken top rail and the curtains for the 4 poster bed falling down, no spare pillows in the room for the bed and no bedside lamps despite there being bedside cabinets, the ceiling is covered in something and has not been cleaned or painted, also the bedding smelt of stale cigarettes!? The floor of the room is all over the place and creaks and squeaks keeping one another awake throughout the night. Moving onto the bathroom as noted before there was no heating!! The mirror shaver light did not work. The pipeworks around the soil stack and waste point was all exposed leaving wildlife free movement in and around the bathroom and bedroom!!? Connected to the bath taps was a built in shower which was a lovely but there was nowhere to hang the shower head or use it as a shower ( maybes that could be looked into ). To top everything off the fire alarm was activated just after 9am waking us up and there was nobody on the reception desk to speak to or make this complaint to!! Complained to the property through booking . Com but completely ignored. Booking . Com not really interested in helping!! Don't touch this place with a barge pole!! The images of this property do not match the reality of the place its disgusting!! There is no restaurant available nor any breakfast but on arrival every place that does food whether its breakfast, lunch or evening meals were all pointed out to us!! Clearly this place is obtaining money through deception and should be shut down!!!!!"
"For £67 room only, it was appalling! The first room they gave me was already occupied! Thankfully the lady wasn't in her room as it could have been very awkward! My twin room was very warm. Only two little windows that opened. The room was furnished with very old furniture, maybe from a charity shop and a shower that ran hot and cold as it saw fit. Won't bother again."
"Avoid this place like the plague!! I was hesitant to leave a review but after reading other reviews on TripAdvisor something needs to be said. The rooms are dirty and we have pictures to prove the bed’s have bugs! All the food offered and served came straight out a deep fat fryer. Let’s move on to the bar, signs outside promoting £3.00 a pint during a happy hour between 5 and 7pm. After being served to find it’s actually £4.00. Totally to lure people in from the street. Both mangers have a stinking attitude when approached regarding the price. They seem to make the prices up as the go along. I certainly won’t be visiting again. And I’d advise pay that little be extra for a perfect experience at The Red Lion over the road."
"This hotel is situated in a nice town with many amenities to suit all visitors. The hotel itself is a period property which externally fits with its age. At the time of our stay, the new owners endeavored to meet our needs. However, their was a lack of staff and some facilities were restricted. Having said that, the owners were very accommodating, polite and keen to please. The twin bedroom we had was very dated and seemed to have a lot of items stored in it. The whole property needs a complete internal reorganization, and decoration. Please bear in I that during the week the hotel caters for contractors during the week, hence the 2-star rating and the cheap prices. All in all, we had a good weekend at the hotel, which allowed us to visit our relatives nearby. The rooms are all dated and need an urgent uplift and clearing out the room of all unnecessary clutter so the bedrooms are not storerooms. The major criticism is the booking system, it’s very awkward and unhelpful. I paid online using my debit card and got a confirmation. I then received an instruction that I needed to confirm my booking by paying. I rang the hotel and things were sorted out. I suggested that the owners might want to look too have a much more reliable booking agency. I wish the new owners all the best for the future and that they can make the hotel great again to attract other clientele and up their game in these difficult trading times."
