"We had a gorgeous meal in the new Bistro 1856. All staff and management are fantastic. Highly recommend the black pudding mash."
"Five stars for the decor alone. Having opted for Sunday lunch we expected pub grub and fine dining arrived. It’s a small menu but very well executed. A vegetarian main would have been a welcome addition."
"This was a very pleasant surprise. We showed up expecting an upscale pub but instead enjoyed a proper restaurant meal with fine-dining touches like fresh bread pre-courses and aperitifs. We tried the mussels and short rib arancini for starters, then to the highlight of perfectly cooked steaks and pecan pie for dessert, both which I would strongly recommend. Only downside to the experience was the feeling from staff that they were stressed and a little disorganized, but we did dine on a Friday night and it was almost full. All in all, worth a trip, we will return for sure."
"Wedding Reception We had a small wedding reception at the newly renovated Wicklow arms. Everything was absolutely perfect from our first inquiry back in December when they had just opened right through to all the planning in the subsequent months. Seamus and all the staff couldn't do enough for us. We visited several times to sample the hospitality and view the new private dining area coming together. We just love the whole space and décor and the old Wicklow arms were always a family favourite. We picked a three-course meal and prosecco reception. For our menu, we had a choice of three starters and three main courses, with a mix of fish and meat dishes, and a selection of desserts. On the day the room looked absolutely beautiful, we had our own private space and terrace to use for the whole evening and we could play our music via Bluetooth. The food was above and beyond expectation, all the food was high quality and perfectly cooked. The steaks and the hake were real highlights. The side dishes were also a hit, we all love tender stem broccoli! I am so happy we choose this lovely, intimate space and that we supported a local business that has so many fond memories for me. Looking forward to visiting again soon."
