"I was booked in for a 10am MOT and dropped my van off around 08:30am. I got a call at 11:17 advising that the MOT failed due to an airbag fault, would I like to proceed with a £35 diagnostic check. I said sure. At 12:59 I got another call saying they suspect a broken electrical cable and offering £60 to investigate and repair it. Ok. At 14:50 I'd not heard anything so went to reception to ask for an update, and was told they "had just" finished it. It turns out the wiring harness under the front seats were disconnected, a quick and simple fix, and an expensive lesson learnt. My concern is that my office overlooks In n Out's customer carpark, and what I observed during the day didn't match the story I was being told. I saw them take the van a little after 10am around to the workshop, but then it was back in the customer car park shortly after 11am when I received the first phone call. Funny thing is, the van didn't move after that. So apparently they did a diagnostic check, investigation, and fixed the problem, during the next nearly 4 hours, without taking the van back to the workshop. Each time I received the phone calls mentioned above, I expected to see the van missing from the customer car park, or shortly being driven around to the workshop, but it didn't move. When I made the gentleman on reception aware of my observations and questioned about the MOT having "just" been finished, he went out into the workshop to check, then returned admitting that it hadn't "just" been fixed as he'd said minutes before, but had in fact been sorted earlier in the day. Had I just caught him in a lie, or was it a genuine mistake? If a mistake, why wasn't I told earlier that the MOT was all done? Why had the van not moved for hours, even during multiple phone calls seeking my permission for further work and charges? I suspect the unplugged electrical harness was identified during the initial MOT, but the issue was strung out over the day to justify an extra £95 in charges to diagnose and fix. I've emailed these observations to the customer care email address, but 3 weeks later and still no reply from them. If you're happy with that sort of behaviour, use them, but I shall certainly not be returning to, or recommending, In n Out in future."
"Booked on line and double checked by phone. The mot and service was fine and good upselling of engine and fuel treatment. The lounge is not very comfortable for a wait on basic plastic chairs. The vend machine was on a clean but did eventually manage to serve some drinks. Charity biscuits were appreciated !"
