About the Business
The Lawrence Batley Theatre is a lively and dynamic venue located in the heart of Huddersfield, on Queen Street. Established in 1994, it is one of West Yorkshire's leading performance and arts venues, attracting audiences from across the region and beyond.
The theatre is housed in a beautifully restored former 19th-century Methodist Chapel, which has been sympathetically adapted to create a flexible, state-of-the-art performance space. The main auditorium seats over 500 people and hosts a diverse range of productions, from theatre and dance to spoken word and comedy.
In addition to its impressive main space, the Lawrence Batley Theatre also boasts a smaller studio theatre, which provides an intimate setting for emerging artists and experimental work. The theatre's programme celebrates a wide range of performance genres, with a commitment to championing contemporary work and supporting emerging artists.
Beyond the theatre's stage, the venue is also home to a vibrant cafe-bar, serving a delicious range of locally sourced food and drinks. The cafe-bar is a welcoming space for pre-show drinks, post-show gatherings or simply a relaxing catch-up with friends.
The Lawrence Batley Theatre is more than a traditional arts venue, it is a cultural hub for Huddersfield and the wider community. It hosts regular events and workshops, providing a platform for creativity and collaboration. From poetry slams to film screenings, workshops to live music, the theatre offers something for everyone.
Overall, the Lawrence Batley Theatre is a fantastic destination for those seeking cultural enrichment, artistic endeavour and great food and drink. It is a must-visit point of interest in Huddersfield for locals and visitors alike.

Reviews
"Superb venue as always and now both toilets have had an upgrade and my wife was very impressed with the free sanitary products available in the ladies. Always warm and cozy in the theatre with very nice theatre staff. My only negative on previous visits is the long queues for the bar and people pushing in entering from the side door and going to the front and staff serving them very poor system"
"A modern theatre with stalls plus two tiers of seating. The acoustics are excellent and stage visibility is very good. There is a small, reasonably priced bar in the foyer. The staff are polite, helpful and efficient. Disabled parking is available, but everyone else will be walking quite a distance from a car park."
"This was my first time at this theatre and I have to say I was really impressed with it. The seating is set out really well with lots of leg room and they're also comfortable. The performance we went to see was over 2 hours long and I wasn't uncomfortable once, unlike other theatres we visit in Leeds and Wakefield for example. The stage is huge and it's a shame there aren't many big productions put on here as it would be a great space to do so. Looking forward to visiting again in the near future"
"The theatre is very clean and has a lovely cosy atmosphere. Visited for the first time with my daughters for a magic show. Staff was super helpful in advising which seats would be best for us - we had a great view of everything with no obstructions. Would have liked a larger variety of options for snacks and the ones available were quite pricey. The courtyard outside is beautiful and there is also a cafe on site. Very enjoyable experience. Kids had a fav time. Will visit again."
"My family & I attended The Dolly Show at BLT. This was our first experience here and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing and atmospheric event and fantastic venue. FREE CAR PARKING after 6pm in Huddersfield with ample parking near by and Disabled parking along the street outside the venue before 6pm. My only criticism is that row A & B (we were sat in B) in the stalls are difficult to pass people to get in or out from your seat as the seats didn't seem to fold up. Row C stalls seemed to have more leg room. We would definitely come again."
