Reviews
"Heard positive things about this place, and the reviews look good. I visited and was greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. Which makes it difficult to write this review, but one must be honest. I paid for 6 sweet offerings, which were a chocolate brownie, creme snegl, kanel snegl, chokolade kugle, and a custard spandauer. In a word.. disappointed! The brownie was an over sugarded product with no taste of chocolate what so ever. It had a crackle like bite (probably because of the excess in a sugar glaze). Tasted nothing like a brownie! Sadly, most of the pastries I purchased were of similar disappointment. The chokolade kugle looked interesting but tasted like a cheap cookie dough rolled into a ball and coated with inferior chocolate and sprinkles. It tasted like something from a nusery/primary school cooking class! Not good! The creme snegl was underwhelming.. no flavour. Pointless. However, the custard spandauer tasted ok. It still tasted like a basic level custard pastry that I would not spend good money on, especially at the price they charge for it. Honestly, things looked good, but everything tasted of a poor quality. There was not one single item that tasted rich, satisfying, or balanced in flavour. The branding is nice... but the proof is definitely not in the pudding here! I wanted to like this place so much, but Brød did not deliver. The staff were very nice and the place looks great. My review is only for the sweet items I purchased. The savoury items looked great, but it is unlikely I would want to risk further disappointment. In a nutshell, the items at Brød tasted of low quality ingredients and did not justify the high price of their products. I would highly recommend looking towards Tŷ Melin bakery for your sweet fix."
"Great little bakery and cafe in the centre of Penarth. An interesting selection of breads, pastries and even pizza. The different Danish pastries are really great. Great atmosphere inside and always very clean and tidy. Lots of choice for all diets. Plenty of hot drink options to order alongside the bakery."
"Tasty fresh pastries however Brød shouldn’t be so apprehensive when trying new flavour combinations. Let’s move away from simply chocolate or jam and try new endeavours and reevaluate the pricing to be more reasonable as you’d be currently looking to pay between £3.20 - £3.70 for a single danish."
"Lovely little bakery and cafe in the centre of Penarth. The quality and selection are excellent. The staff are very friendly too. Perhaps the only downside is the price. But then again the food is great."
