"AVOID! Was great, is now absolutely horrible since the pandemic. Having to jump through countless hoops to get an appointment. "Call at 8.45, wait for 15 min, then MAYBE you'll get a phone call next week." Doctor dismissed me, basically accused me of just googling random symptoms and getting worried. Mentioned several times that their setup does not work with my ADHD but noone cared."
"Have always had a good experience with all the staff in this surgery. Yesterday found reception staff very helpful on the phone. Got slotted in to speak to a Dr this morning and saw him this evening. ( Dr Ishmael - don't recall his surname but it's nice when a GP uses their first name). He put me at ease and was so professional and reassuring. I certainly hope he will be a permanent Dr at this surgery."
"The receptionists aim to make sure you receive the appropriate treatment, and can be helpful by providing guidance. I also have had excellent treatment from the Dr's (8/10 drs are wonderful)- I find that they are thorough, refer to appropriate resource or specialist, and listen - the most important thing I think I have discovered since being at this Dr surgery (3years) is that they often provide a coherent and informative explanation for what is occurring and perhaps why symptoms are being experienced. I have had few poor experiences where they have not listened (on occasion)- and have seemingly made presumptions. However I expect you will receive better help particularly from drs such as Dr kavannah (on phone not sure that's her name - but starts with a 'K'- young Irish Dr) was fantastic; Dr Henderson (helpful thorough compassionate), Dr Clarey (thorough, kept me informed about process of referral and followed up - requested a re-asessment for why this service was not granting me support), and Dr Niven (approachable, reassuring, and informed me details of why I may be experiencing some things- she clarified alot and was good at listening). Thanks to the team at Sandyford; the receptionists, nurses, and Drs; I have faith and trust in NHS that I have not always had with my journey experiencing chronic pain (9 years)."
"AVOID! I must admit I have never thought this day would have arrived but it did actually. I have been with this GP for almost 10 years and today I finally moved to a better one, highly recommended from Italian friends who had great experiences so far. Before the Pandemic my doctor was MacNeill who is both an amazing doctor and a real gentleman. I have never had problems with him and everything was easy and quick. However, after the Pandemic things changed completely leading to new staff and procedures. Using the excuse of Covid (other GPs give you the chance to book either a phone or a face-to-face appointment), they now offer mainly 90% of what I would call “phone consultancy” where they just go by “try this medicine, try that medicine” which obviously doesn’t help at all and it actually deteriorates the patients situation. Due to an extreme level of stress I have been facing on January due to University Exams, I started to have ear congestion but I knew exactly it was all stress related. However, doctor Lyons told me that my ears were very inflamed and he prescribed me Otrivix and Atomize: after a week the problem was still there, almost zero difference. Then doctor Niven prescribed me a saline solution for an extra week and stronger ear drops, offering to see me in person after a week, realising that my ears were actually fine, they were not inflamed. I have asked to be referred to Ross Hall (Private healthcare) paying but still waiting almost 3 weeks to get told that my ears were perfect. Things became much worse when after a week I started to suffer from Tinnitus, something still related to my stress and anxiety and so I had to phone several times both the GP and NHS24 as I suffered from severe Panic Attacks due to the tinnitus itself but also to the “fear” of being a patient of this GP where wrong diagnosis and lack of care at the reception made a cocktail of agony which lasted 1 month. In fact, both receptionists and nurses are rude, unhelpful and inefficient. One of them especially (not sure if the name is Irene) is ok over the phone but face to face is like if she winds you up especially if you are not Scottish. Even my girlfriend (who is Glaswegian), came with me once and she noticed the extreme lack of interest of this person. When I asked to get my blood pressure checked (tinnitus can be related to it) I have been told to phone tomorrow to get an appointment with the Doctor, despite she could have done herself in two minutes especially because high blood pressure is classified as Emergency. I had to go to the Pharmacy across the road to get my pressure checked and they did immediately and for free. When I have been able to talk over the phone with doctor Lyons, suggesting that all my symptoms were related possibly to anxiety, he prescribed me Propranolol which slows down your heart rate (remember this). However, after having had enough, I decided to go to Italy (where I’m from) two weeks ago and I have been able to book with a super short notice with 3 different Doctors (2 of them University Professors also) and the diagnosis was identical: High level of Stress, Anxiety and mild Depression! All of them with the same opinion. They gave me appropriate medication and after having started the therapy just a few days ago, my health improved immediately and I now smile again after having been in agony for so long due to this GP. Also, when I mentioned to them about the Propranolol, they were shocked as they literally said “You would never give that to a patient without doing a chest X-ray first because that could cause a heart failure if the patient suffers from a heart disease that he might not be aware of!” An experienced Doctor like MacNeill would have been able to detect the origin of my issue especially since both the new Doctors ignored the key information which was “Everything started after the University exams!”. Even a 5 years old would have understood that that was Stress. Goodbye Forever Sandyford GP, you will no longer ruin my life! Seeya!"
"An awful surgery that stinks of incompetence and ignorance. From the second I joined this surgery, I've had nothing but issues. Firstly, unless you say your at deaths door, trying to get an appointment to see a doctor was a nightmare and even then they would just say 'call 111'. Then after umpteen calls, I eventually get an appointment only to have a doctor dismiss any of the issues I had. Her professional diagnosis was to take up yoga (I'm not kidding). I have since been properly diagnosed and the comment from the other surgery was that this place is negligent. On top of that, they have the most god awful, rude receptionist who has a complete attitude problem (this would be the older one with glasses). I don't believe anyone should talk down or be rude to anyone else but if my job was sitting behind a desk answering a phone for a living, I certainly wouldn't think I was placed to give anyone cheek or an attitude. I actually felt sorry for her in the end as in my experience people like that are actually miserable with themselves and vent at others to make themselves feel like they matter. I've never had a bad experience with a surgery in my life so this is a first. It amazes me how 50,000 people can practically sit on each other lap to attend a sporting event, 100's can gather in a pub or nightclub, you can go to a dentist where your mouth is wide open when any work is being done but hey, if you need to see a doctor....good luck in getting an appointment. It's just sheer laziness from this surgery and they will say anything to fob you off. I mean, what are we paying National Insurance for? Absolute disgrace, avoid and go elsewhere."
