"Had a really great dinner with family. It was during the week and the restaurant was not too crowded. The food was divine! We were a large group - one of our waiters were very helpful and went out of her way to accommodate us. They gave us a little over two hours for our meal (before the next booking) which I feel was a little short."
"Hadn't been here for many years but took the opportunity at Christmas of paying a visit. Located in an old Victorian building in a lane (or close as its called in Edinburgh) off the Royal Mile. Lovely setting. Fantastic selection of whisky (about 300) as well as a half dozen red wines and decent local beers (Pilot, Newbarns & Tempest breweries). We only came in for drinks. Friendly service."
"Devil’s Advocate, one of the best whisky bars in the world, is tucked away in Advocate’s Close and is a wonderful hidden gem in Edinburgh’s old town. Come here for a wonderful grill selection, delicious whisky flights, and tasty whisky cocktails. I’ve been here twice and the food has always been top notch. The crispy black haggis was interesting, even though I’m not a fan of haggis I actually liked this one. The chicken wings seasoned with Laphroig whisky gives it a smokey character. The venison was really good, and you can also order a really good rib eye steak. The Devil’s Advocate is truly top notch when it comes to food and drinks! Highly recommended."
"The food here is good! The fried haggis starter tastes really nice and authentic. Less spiced than others I tried In Edinburgh though. The large chicken wings portion is fine and really really large. The chickpea burger was delicious. The steak meat was of good quality but even though I asked for medium rare, I got it more on the medium to medium well side. The service was a bit messy, we got the appetizers before the drinks even though the drinks were ordered first. The steak as said was more cooked than I asked for. Also at the end, they were very late with the bill. A table asked for the bill like 10 minutes after us and got it before us."
"Excellent bar with a generous whisky selection and a sufficient number of beers on tap. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The bartenders are very friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable. The food is good, but do get a reservation as the Devil’s Advocate gets really busy most days. The surroundings are beautiful too, so don’t miss this stop while in Edinburgh."
