"I recently visited this pizza place and was pleased with the delicious pizza. However, the service was not up to par as we had to wait almost two hours for our food despite arriving at 7pm. Additionally, the gratuity charge of 12.5% felt forced and non-discretionary. Even when purchasing a bottle of wine at the bar, we were expected to pay the same charge. I believe that tipping should be based on good service and appreciation from the staff. Overall, the pizza was good but the service and gratuity charge left much to be desired."
"Have tried a couple of pizzas here which were amazing, beers and ice cream are good too."
"With the rise of quality pizza places, the small differences are what make a good pizza a great pizza. Bertha's is a good pizza place, all the elements are there, good pizza oven, quality ingredients, good cheese. But unfortunately the slight lack of crispness to the base means that each slice fails to have that little bit of snap, which makes the beautiful dough just chewy. This combined with the ever so slightly too watery tomato make the the pizza floppy. Please don't take this to mean that this is a bad pizza, it is very good. The cheese is excellent, the tomato has beautiful flavour and is thick (and a bit watery) and the base has incredible charring which gives a wonderful flavour."
"We are visiting Bristol from the US, and my nephew took us to this place for dinner. He'd never been there before, but we were looking forward to trying it. The atmosphere is nice, but in looking at the menu, one of the first things we noticed is that there's a 12.5% gratuity added to every order. It doesn't matter the size of your party, it's just added on regardless of the quality of service you get. This was especially interesting as most of England still don't expect tips for things. Anyway, we ordered 4 pizzas, and the range was from about 11.5 GBP to 15 GBP. Not a horrible price, but the pizzas were not huge. Good for one person each. We ordered drinks, and the prices were pretty average. Our disappointment came when the pizzas were delivered. All but one were scorched in a number of places, and the taste permeated the whole pizza. We didn't return them, but ate what we could. They did give us a discount at the till, but the pizzas shouldn't have been presented that way. We've heard that they have fabulous gelato, but we didn't have time for dessert, so I cannot comment on that. We left feeling that the meal was just "meh". I don't know if I would return, unless it was to try the gelato."
"First Bertha's in two years and god I've missed them. Hands down the best pizza in Bristol (and amazing gelato for afters)."
