"Gorgeous sunny day and a huge variety of birds. Well worth visiting. Good paths. Still some dragonflies about, even though it's October. Saw a bittern! His bill was pointing upwards as he eyed a hovering kestrel above. His long neck made him look like a snake. Great RSPB site, one of my favourites."
"Nice nature reserve for runners, walkers and swimmers. Went open water swimming, very cold but a nice little spot. Is an RSPB site so good for bird watching, has a pay amd display car park or there is free parking outside on the main road."
"Lovely spot for a wild swim, warm, calm water with shallow edges and a gentle gradient in. I've been coming here for some time, and they've just installed a very handy bike & clothes drying rack neatly camouflaged as a nonsensical signpost"
"Only discovered Bower's/Caroline's lake during training for a triathlon but wish I'd have visited sooner! Around the lake there's a path which is great for running and theres a place to lock a bike in the car park There's amazing walks around the grounds too The lake itself has around 1k parameter. It's a great location to start to learn to swim as it's shallow around the majority of the edge. The only location you need to avoid is the Sand Martin wall."
"Amazing RSPB sanctuary, a peaceful haven for walking, bird spotting, sitting and contemplating. The various lake's are full of life and interest, even in February on such a gorgeous day, the light on the water was spectacular. The shop is basic but has coffee and snacks. There are toilets and plenty of parking places, either on the site or kerbside pull ins."
