"Been to a number of surgeries and this is arguably the poorest I've visited. Years ago, staff were attentive and cheery, and we felt confident that our elderly family cat was in safe hands. Now my Nana brings her to this practice regularly for thyroid treatment, and she's always terrified to go. She has previously experienced regular fitting as a result of anaesthesia after having teeth cleaned and/or pulled. After calling the surgery and revisiting them with the cat, all the vet did was take her out of her carrier, put her on the floor, look at her and tell us to 'keep an eye'. Eventually an out-of-hours emergency service provided her with a dose of muscle relaxant to help keep her calm and less rigid, but also did nothing to treat the seizure activity nor tell us what they thought was happening. Nobody from either surgery gave us any information whatsoever about what was happening to her, whether it was a common side-effect or whether we should prepare for the worst, and she suffered these fits for around 14 hours in total. It was terrifying and confusing and the staff at Value Vets in particular were very unsympathetic. Now that she requires regular treatment, Nana worries each time that she has to take her. Our cat has been handled her very roughly during these visits and now she sweats profusely, pants and does everything she can to hide. She is also very visibly distressed when she gets home, sometimes for hours. This isn't necessarily unusual behaviour for pets that don't like vet visits, but this has only developed whilst Nana has been taking her to this practice. We are also concerned with the way treatment is being offered, in that every time there has been a development in our cat's diagnosis and treatment, nothing has been explained especially well. The vet Nana most recently spoke to expects her - an elderly lady, by herself - to give our cat medication orally when he is fully aware that the cat is incredibly anxious (he could see it during the examination, as mentioned above) and will not allow anyone to handle her, even us. Nana is unable to receive help in providing this medication during the pandemic since I no longer live with her, so again we feel dismissed; the vet in question was entirely disinterested. We never see or hear the staff interacting with any of the pets in any capacity, which is also unusual. The overarching premise of the place seems to be about providing the fastest possible diagnosis and treatment, not paying attention to the worries of clients, and draining people of money. This place doesn't have the heart and soul of a veterinary clinic as others very clearly do. Talk to the animals, pet them, hug them, reassure them and make them feel comfortable - isn't that supposed to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the job? Unfortunately we're now looking for other practices to take Nana's cat to where she won't become so frightened and we won't feel so concerned overall in taking her here."
