"Only giving two stars due to the guy waiting the tables was all on his own. Otherwise I would of just walked out as soon as they didn’t have the item I wanted on the menu. I think this was tactics for me to have the steak. I’m a big meat eater, this sadly was the most chewiest piece of said meat. It was cooked badly, Should of been medium to rare… but was more rare. Hence chewy toughness. Wrong side salad came out with my meal, so by time it did arrive I had already eaten most of my meal. The chips were okay, accept the large ones were hard in the middle. The tomato and onion salad felt like it was topped up with fresh (nice tomatoes only 3-4 then the rest all diced mushy bitter tasteless tomatoes. Onion too large and tasted so raw in the mix it was unpleasant to eat on its own. I really hope the restaurant takes on board the info, and get their quality standards to warrant the price tag. £44.00 (1 pint + bottle still water + side salad + fillet steak with bone marrow and chips) would of been warrant if I had enjoyed the meal. I don’t mind the small portions as long as quality is involved. The bone marrow remove, it adds nothing to the dish. (Or add a slice of bread to enjoy the bone marrow on.) Also the steak wasn’t cooked in Garlic and Thyme as stated. Maybe the chef had an off day."
"Amazing dog friendly resteraunt. The food and service were brilliant. If you want a high quality dog friendly resteraunt you won't find better. The monks fish and sea bass were excellent as we're both the starters and deserts. If your in York please give it a go, highly recommended."
"Absolutely delicious! Staff were fantastically friendly, courteous, and helpful with welcoming smiles despite what I am sure is a tiring job. Food wise, the steak (I had a ribeye) was excellent, and my starter (beef carpacio) was especially delicious! Would definitely recommend!"
"I am giving a 3 star because of the service, without the exceptionally good service levels we received. It was cert friendly and our waiter was very attentive. If i was scoring on the food alone, I’m afraid the score wouldn’t be as good. Firstly i was disappointed with the narrow choice on the menu, amd the food we had was, well… not as good as We were expecting. Quite disappointing actually. If some one asks me how was it, i would say ask me if we will go there again? We won’t. I appreciate running a business and especially a food business must be a real hard challenge, amd satisfying everyone will be almost impossible. Most people who have left reviews seem to have had very positive experiences. I’m sorry guys, but ours wasn’t. One other thing, i really don’t like 12.5% service charges added to the bill. I know u can ask for it to removed. But come on. We’re British."
"We had booked a dog friendly area here. Worth booking as it seemed very busy. Staff were fantastic, food was lovely. I had a steak & it was so good. Highly recommend eating here. Lovely wine also. Would definitely go back. Great 80's music and a few themed bits behind the bar."
