"Kindly refrain from patronizing them as they have exhibited appalling behavior towards both their customers and neighbors. As their neighbor, I have experienced firsthand how their staff has harassed and exchanged unpleasant words with those living nearby. They even almost caused damage to my car. Their complete disregard for building positive community relations and their rude demeanor make them an extremely unpleasant business to deal with. I strongly advise against recommending them."
"Great wine shop , staff superb , knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Got some great tips on cooking steak and what wine to pair with which cuts !!!"
"I have never had issues with this place until today. I walked in with my 8 year old daughter to pick up some mid ranged French wine this evening and was not greeted or served at all by any member of staff. Luckily I knew what I wanted and within 2 minutes had chosen my wine. As I approached the till a middle aged man who was working there(I suppose was the manager) abruptly says “you need to wear a mask”. I was a bit taken back as I although he may be right I wasn’t sure if I had to wear one as there were no signs anywhere and there were about half a dozen people tasting wine there without one. I apologized and said I will remember it next time as I knew I was already on the way out. His response was “you better not forget” !! Wow, I really didn’t know what to say. Then he tells me it’s a legal requirement. Still confused why he was still going on about this issue and yet not even served me regarding my wine purchase or even greeted me! He then put my order through the till and showed me the card machine. I said I needed to put my post code in which he then went back to the computer and entered it in. In the meantime my daughter spots disposable masks on the till, clearly for customers who do not have masks and points then out to me. Im confused and getting irritated the fact he didn’t offer me one therefore asked him “are they for customers?” At which point he ignored me but I asked more firmly the second time and he answered -YES!!?? Why why why do you have to be like this I have been going to this majestic for more than 10 years and never been treated like this. There was absolutely no need for this silly charade and I walked out feeling annoyed the entire thing happened the way it did. How annoying, I really don’t want one rotten apple to spoil the cart so although it’s probably a one off I still think that if you are facing customers you must provide a service whether you like it or not! Otherwise you’re in the wrong profession. Poor service hopefully better next time."
"I must caveat this poor review by saying that I have been a regular shopper at this Majestic store for many years and with the exception of tonight, have always received very friendly and knowledgeable service. However, this evening when I visited, there were none of the usual team. When I approached the wine tasting table, I was greeted by a staff member who repeatedly - and I stress, repeatedly - looked me up and down in the most judgemental way, before eventually asking me in perplexed tones whether I needed help. I said I would like to try the wine but did not appreciate, as a regular customer (not that that really has anything to do with it), being looked up and down in that fashion. He reacted, as one might expect, with incredibility and in passive aggressive tones responded, "I'm sorry YOU felt that way". Another member of staff kindly tried to help me with the wine selection and generally defuse any tension, but I refused as I really wasn't in the mood by this point and went about my shopping on my own. Some moments later, I walked around the corner to the white wine section to overhear the same gentleman saying to his colleague something along the lines of: "I was looking at him like that because he "looked aggy."" I should say that I had come from my flat in my trackies and a winter wool hoodie (though not with the hoodie up in case you think I brought it on myself!). It is also probably fair to say that, coming from Irish plumbing stock, I don't quite look the typical Battersea Sloane. However, I'd like to think I'm far from looking like a vagrant and in my suit, might even pass for a member of the chattering classes. I challenged the gentleman concerned, who retorted he hadn't been talking about me (he clearly had) and said he didn't like my tone. I said I was the one who had observed him and that's how he came across. As someone who has possibly spent thousands in this store over the years, what attracts me to Majestic over local supermarkets is the knowledgeable yet unsnooty service. It is such a shame that this was found wanting tonight (although admittedly the lady who tried to defuse things was very sweet). I hope the gentleman concerned checks his conscious or unconscious biases and this was an unfortunate blip. Many different people enjoy nice wine and some may not have the social capital and confidence that I do to call out what seems like sly snobbery. In case you think I am being unreasonable, I imagine other members of staff may know who I am and I would be surprised if they say I have been anything less than friendly and appreciative over the years. I cannot say I am minded to return any time soon, which is a shame."
"I have never been to a majestic, I'm so glad this was my first! Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff who made our experience so good! Thoroughly recommend the tasting and discussing what type of drinks you'd like. The bourbon and gins from the distributor was a particular highlight. And the recommendation of torres crisps for the wine.. 5/5"
