"I rang to see if they had any Dubonnet in stock as it is difficult to get hold of. They had one left, I said I would be there in 15 mins and would he put it aside. it was no problem. I called, collected and decided to buy a bottle of red and white wine whilst there. The chap was most helpful and gave sound advice. I have been once before today during the early days of the pandemic and would certainly go again. The knowledge the chap had of the the wines was exactly what I wanted. I will definitely go back, and when I have some spare money buy some more expensive wines they stock. If you want a special wine for a special occasion I suggest this is the place you will get it"
"Sad to say I have to agree with what several other reviewers have said about the rudeness of what I assume to be the owner. I went in for a rather special last minute Christmas gift, excited about having found a local shop that do beautiful hampers, where you can choose the products yourself from a wide selection of top quality items. The website was down due to demand but the web staff assured me if I went into the shop I would be able to select and order the hamper from there. When I entered the shop I was wowed by how lovely it is and I said so, I also expressed my delight at being able to put the hamper together myself. But the unsmiling, deadpan person, glowering from behind the counter, knocked the enthusiasm straight out of me and made me feel most unwelcome, to the point where I felt apologetic about taking up his time. Fortunately I already made a list from the website of items I wanted fir the hamper, so rather than browsing and buying a few things for myself (which Id planned to do), I rushed through my order. Throughout the experience I felt rushed, unwelcome, and even though I was spending quite a bit of money, that my custom was not appreciated. The service was so perfunctory that I left the shop wondering if the details of the accompanying message and delivery address, had been accurately taken. I do understand about the pressures on retail establishments at the moment, and the fact it has to be one in one out but I wasn’t taking up too much time and was spending quite a bit, although not as much as I’d planned because I felt I had to rush and leave without getting anything for myself. A few days later I mentioned I’d been in W&W to a friend who lives locally and before I could say anything else, my friend said they’d been in to buy a hamper some time ago and the owner was so rude they’d not been back since. They are lovely people and like me are friendly and enthusiastic but as with me, the rudeness put a real dampener on what should have been a nice experience. I wouldn’t have written this review had they not had the same experience, and had others not said the same thing here, but as it is I felt compelled to add my agreement in the hope that the owner may rethink about his attitude. Maybe he was having a bad day when I went in, but several people having the same opinion would surely make him stop and think about how he is coming across to customers. This is particularly if as he says in his answer to another review, he is worried about retaining business in these difficult times. It’s such a beautiful shop, please complement that by making customers feel welcome and valued rather than that they are an inconvenience, as I felt that day. I used to visit the shop occasionally when it was in West Kirby, the staff there were always friendly and the web staff are very helpful so it’s sad that my experience that day made me feel rather crushed, disappointed, and like I didn’t want to visit the shop again."
"A lovely delicatessen and wine merchant in Heswall. They currently with Covid operate a 1 in 1 out system as the shop is small but packed! I went in and was able to immediately find the three things I needed. The staff were also very knowledgeable!"
"I live just across the road from this shop and have always wanted to.pop in and have a browse, ask some questions, get some gift ideas etc - the window always looks interesting and inviting and I like supporting local business. However....after my first venture inside it will definitely be my last. I was in and out in less than 2 minutes as I was immediately pounced on by the rude, unfriendly guy who runs the place - " use the gel" " don't touch" not a hello or please passed his lips. He was obnoxious- don't bother. Use the Internet. Its cheaper, more choices and far far friendlier."
"I dropped my wife outside Heswall Whitmore and White this morning. A member of staff who was unloading their van looked daggers at me, especially when I then drove into their car park! He also looked daggers at my wife as she walked in. A few minutes later, she came out with her shopping g, but I could see she was furious. The guy inside the shop had also been rude. For sure, there was an A4 poster, several in fact, saying don't touch etc, but when you are rushing, who reads those? A friendly mention from the server would have suffice, rather than n "if you touch it you buy it" snapped out. Ironically, it is a lovely shop, and my wife is a regular customer, because it sells quality goods, but more because she wants to support local business. So, Whitmore and White, I know Novid-19 is stressing us all, but it is no reason to lose our manners, especially to customers. You just lost a regular one."
