"Awful experience, the hospital is clearly under staffed especially at A&E. I took my 10 month old child up with suspected strep A, scarlet fever he had an extremely high temp. We waited for 9 hours before leaving without seeing a doctor. Unlike other hospitals it has no vending machines for food or water in the waiting room. It has no facilities what so ever for bottle making even though its a children's hospital and they have babies waiting for over 9 hours. I luckily got a seat the corridors were lined with parents and sick babies sitting on the floor. The full time I was there I was sitting on a seat with sick under it. (One of many) not once did anyone attend and clean the area to control infection I also spent all night next to a child who was confirmed strep A and staff deemed it appropriate and safe to have confirmed case in the waiting area surrounded by sick babies. I also witnessed a young girl being sick and coughing up blood after having a diabetic hypo because she was unable to keep any food water down, again no medical staff present and checking on patients while we waited for hours. We had to hunt for assistance and the nurse who attended brought paper towels to clean up blood, I requested once the child had been attended to that maybe someone should clean area with medical cleaner as it was blood. (this never happened). When speaking to staff we were told what do you expect its A&E you should expect to wait 9 hours to be seen. Not to mention the complete waste of medical staff by having not one but two medical staff on the entrance door to prevent partners from attending the waiting room area. Surely there is better things these staff members could be doing like taking obs of patients waiting over 4 hours incase vitals have changed in the time since they were processed."
"The nurses & other staff couldn't be more helpful hope my great granddaughter will be home soon thanks to the amazing care she received x"
"This hospital is rubbish, wait time is crazy, went to the hospital with my baby girl had to wait for 3 hours and when I asked the nurse on how it will take she said the doc is attending other patients and can't guarantee how long. The problem here is it's an A&E hospital and still we have to wait for long hours like honestly, and my problem is not that they didn't see my daughter there were soooo many other patients as well who's was waiting, who were very sick, my problem is that they could have told me "maybe your case is not an emergency can you come after 2-3 hours or if they felt it's an emergency they could have seen immediately". What if me or anyone else came unprepared for two hours with a baby. There is no parking space. If you don't want to wait for 2-3 hours please phone nhs 24 or the GP they are much better."
"Awful... Worst experience ever... Gave 1 cause can't give 0. My 9 month old daughter had viral fever for 3 days and dehydrated and was crying inconsolably and we took her to this hospital A&E. Waited for 2 hours and no sign of the doctor... My daughter was crying inconsolably but no movement from the staff/doctor as the hospital was crazy busy... Feel sorry for children, parents and staff. I wish someone who is accountable can look into the situation. Staff nurse was nice n helpful but couldn't guarantee when doctor will be available. So had to leave the hospital without getting treatment as we lost hope and we had to calm our baby. And these waiting times are not new to this hospital. Regardless of the situations, it's embarrassing to keep infants and babies waiting for that long. Shame shame shame."
