"Used to be a nice country pub and very peaceful. The new look and general feel has now become a posh Essex vibe which I feel has sent it downhill massively. Only came in for a drink and crisps, which was nothing like your normal salt and vinegar. Only take card, no cash. Constantly playing music. A group of people just sitting there completely in their own world with just them three in it. Was looking forward to come back. Now I wish I hadn’t."
"Visited here for lunch with friends, babies and a small dog, it was the perfect place. A very cosy pub and we had a lovely lunch."
"Idyllic little corner to bring guests Sadly the food is hit and miss. The first time I ate there the meal was perfect although pricey. The second time my fish was really nice and so was my guest's meal. The third time a disaster . I ordered the fish, they must have run out instead of telling me they served something half an inch wide that was not worth the plate it was put on, dishonest, I ate it in silence and said nothing. I went back with a guest for Sunday lunch that cost £75 for 2 . The only words I can use to describe it was disgraceful I waited an eternity for the meal to be placed in front of us. My guest left her meal. The roast potatoes were like rocks. The portiin of beef was minisceul, overcooked and tough. The meal was piled in a stack, this time I complain and was given some reasonable beef but the rest of the meal was cold and unpalatable. They lost my business forever I would have been a regular diner. Bringing many guests and introducing new people. Too expensive to be served either an excuse for a meal or a dreadful Sunday lunch. You may be lucky with your meal, but it's certainly won't last. It has taken 6 months to write this review."
"Lovely atmosphere, food and such a cosy little pub. Sam was really helpful and made a fuss of our dog. After reading some of the horrible reviews left on here i felt it necessary to give 5* and support the new owners in their venture. But I honestly can't fault this quaint, cosy, Essex pub. Keep up the good work, we all can't wait to visit again soon."
"Reopened under new management and a major refresh. Great place to eat on a summers day. Can highly recommend the mussels and chips or the garlic prawns on the main course and the cheesecake to follow. All washed down with good beer or a wide selection of wines. Great value."
