"Great old school pub! Pool table too, and good prices. Great pub to have in Wapping. Pies are tasty too! Good in the summer because of the sun trap outdoor area, and good in the winter because of the pubby indoors interior"
"I've been to the Turner's Old Star quite a few times and if you like an old school friendly East End pub then pay it a visit. When I went recently it wasn't busy but it was early in the week and just after Christmas. It is named after the painter Joseph Turner and was also used in the film Legend as the ‘Pig and Whistle’ pub where the peace talks between the Krays and the Richardsons soon descend into a massive punch up. It also has a pool table and live sports on a few big screens."
"Lovely local pub with a beer garden. The pkace is very well kept and the banter was pleasant."
"Nice traditional pub! A bit more pricey than expected. Fosters £4.80, more than in pubs around central London! Only plastic glasses outside - not the orders of the old bill, just the guvnors own idea apparently."
"This has to be one of the few remaining traditional East End pubs in Wapping. It’s named after the celebrated English painter Joseph Turner, who developed the original ‘Old Star’ tavern in 1851, after converting two cottages that he had inherited. The pub underwent a major yet sympathetic refurbishment in 1987 and was then renamed as a tribute to its original owner. Today it sells a good selection of well kept real ales and has large screens for watching live sports. For me the latter is a little too intrusive, but these things are a matter of personal taste. Nevertheless, this classic, historic pub Is definitely worth seeking out."
