"Amazing atmosphere, extremely friendly staff which they told us little bit about history of that pub which was super interesting. Nice to see staff who is truly engaged with the place they working. They showed us old pictures how that pub looked before and how it changed during that time. Amazing additional entertainment."
"Went to a wedding here and it was the best wedding I've ever been to. The team was so accommodating, attentive and friendly and the food was the best wedding food I've ever had - everyone agreed! The staff also decorated the venue beautifully - would recommend!"
"Had a fabulous meal on Friday evening: beautifully cooked chateaubriand, hand-cut chips also cooked brilliantly, winter vegetables and an excellent dessert. Lovely ambience and great service. Highly recommended"
"How incredibly disappointing. In brief, Ridiculously slow service, white wine served warm, starters came out 1 by 1 in a sluggish fashion. It was then an hour and a half until the mains arrived. (Managed to get another bottle of wine out of us - this wasn't comped). Once our mains did arrive, (2x roast pork, 1x roast chicken and 1x vegetarian pie) we were baffled to see the roasts served all on one plate on a sad bed of lettuce...a few small cuts of each meats, evidently the scraps from the kitchen (The chicken once cut to the bone, looked considerably under cooked.) No utensils were provided to portion out the plate and when I questioned the portion sizes, the manager offered to get us some more, but never returned. They also didn't have any apple sauce to go with the pork (once again they are charging £25 for a portion of pork shoulder...mixed in with chicken it seems.) Just not good enough. If this was a wetherspoons I might be in a more forgiving mood, but at £25 a roast, these prices are obscene for the quality of food and level of service. I can only say that I am frustrated to not have gotten the name of our sever, who really had her hands tied behind her back by a complete absence of management - she truly is a fantastic asset and a real gem to the Carpenter's Arms - I would suggest that she is made Manager asap. To not end on a complete sour note - the watermelon and cucumber soup was stunning. I am saddened to read similar reviews online - I think management need a serious huddle."
"This was our first visit under the new management and I’d recommend it. The ambiance is cosier and interesting with an eclectic mix of furniture and accessories which avoid the over-designed trap. The food was delicious with plenty to chose from on the menu and specials blackboard (the mussels were some of the best I’ve had). We sat by the real fire in the corner which I loved. Guests were over-warmed by the radiator under their bench, but do ask for table 2 or 3 if you feel the cold! Service was a bit ragged to start with - our first waiter said he was new and then forgot to put in our order for olives and salted almonds. Delicious when they arrived twenty minutes later but not the pre-meal snack with drinks envisaged…Service recovered and our courses came in a timely manner, so no harm done. Especially given quality of the cooking. They say toilet facilities are an indicator and I hope the success the new The Carpenters Arms is enjoying will enable investment in that area which is functional rather than welcoming. Overall a very good evening and we’ll be back soon."
