"Booked a meal at lunchtime on New Year's Day - we'd driven past many times but this was our first visit. Lovely atmosphere with tasteful decorations, a log fire and a quiet (as in not noisy - it was busy) restaurant. The food and service were both excellent with interesting menu choices. We very much enjoyed our visit and intend to return, rather than drive past!"
"Fantastic Sunday lunch with the family in front of a roaring fire. We all had roast dinners (beef and vegetarian Wellington). The quantity was generous but not over the top, and you can choose a half portion if you're not too hungry. Very good selection of options if you don't fancy a roast dinner. They had plenty of beers from local breweries on tap. The Green Mountain from Thornbridge was our favourite. Service was warm and friendly throughout. A lovely little pub, highly recommended."
"We dropped in for a lunchtime meal a few days before Christmas and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the venue and catering. Also the warm welcome from the bar staff (male, from Dore) and the owner/manager. It's a place we have driven past and not stopped many times but on this occasion, with the road being closed, we were walking. We shall definitely visit again."
"Great beers, great service, great food - what more do you want from a pub? We stumbled across The Chequers in Froggatt on arrival for a short Peak District break as our cottage wasn't ready for us. The welcome was very warm and we enjoyed a couple of hours of lovely food and ales. Starters - crab spring roll Mains - steak and ale pie / game suet pudding Dessert - ice cream and polenta cake We also bought some local ales to take put plus a couple of sandwiches for later in the day. The food was really nice. The pub is on a busy B road with the car park across the road so take care crossing, especially if you have kids. Paths are lacking so if you're on foot keep your wits about you. But its worth the effort for sure. Perfect after conquering the nearby Froggatt Edge."
"Classic country pub, log fires, good food and good ale wrapped up with very good service. We walked to it through the woods which had loads of fungi growing then back along the edge The Speciality coffees were spectacular ( gingerbread latte) as was the pint of shandy. It goes without saying that the walking was glorious."
