"This was best friends local and we had many good nights here. He passed away in the 1990’s. This was my first return some 30 years later. Still the same joint locked in time, with its quirky history, serving beautifully prepared pizza’s. They were fully booked but accommodated us. Very good value. Shame we are so far away to make it our local."
"Favourite pizza, going for years and it's always great... Not typical high street pizza or Neapolitan style, unique and delicious. Great customer service, fast and friendly."
"I have always liked the pizzas here, it's top-notch. And it's always nice to support a small business, so don't mind the higher prices. But the hostess needs to learn how to talk to her customers. She is so arrogant and unwelcoming. I ordered a takeaway with sweet potato fries and just requested a bit of ketchup. She said she has to charge for it, new policy from new year. And quite unnecessarily adds " we don't get it for free, you know". I didn't even ask why! The other staff are completely nice! Sorry to say not going back there."
"We have been coming here as a family for almost 20 years and would really recommend anyone to come and have the pizzas. They are their own special category, not a classic New York slice/Italian/sourdough or anything apart from silver dollar pizzas. I felt compelled to leave this review as my family will be leaving the area soon so I’m not sure when I’ll next be back and I want to try to ensure silver dollar will still be here in another 20 years. I recommend the silver dollar special, the garlic (amazing never had anything like it anywhere else) anchovies or the vegetarian. Thin, crispy and really good toppings. Plus the place has an interesting history to read on the menus."
"I am sorry to have to leave a bad review for a small business, but our visit to Silver Dollar tonight was bad from start to finish. The hostess was rude and uninviting. We were the ONLY people in the restaurant at 5:30pm, however she told us they were very busy with take-away orders and it would be a longer wait for our pizza. We proceeded to wait while watching delivery person after person come in and out for take away orders, while we --- the only people actually seated in the restaurant-- continued not to be served. The pizza is nothing close to New York style pizza (I know, I am from NYC). In fact, it is hard to call this pizza at all. It is like tomato sauce and cheese on top of a cream cracker. Anything with garlic had way too much garlic (and I love garlic!). We paid £77 for 4 bad pizzas and bad service. It is a ashame, because we have been to Silver Dollar before several years ago and we remembered it being a really good experience and really good pizza. Sadly, I can no longer say that and we will not be going back."
