"Visited the Royal Oak tonight (26.03.2023). Upon arrival children’s play area outside was chained shut. Go inside and take a seat in the children’s part and only 3 machines were on and a sign to say play area indoors was closed. Asked staff why to be told health and safety a child had got his head caught on Friday just gone in a while in the netting. Then when someone else asked they said a child got their leg stuck in the whole in the netting. service was quick at till but had to be served one till for food one for drinks. Ordered Sunday dinners 2 adult 2 children. Adults came with extra piece of boiled chicken breast and burnt stuffing extra 2 frozen potatoes. Never tasted nothing like it disgusting left half of our meal kids ate Yorkshire puddings. Was no beef left at 5pm. Won’t be visiting again. Have came here a lot of times but after todays visit put me off wouldn’t mind travel half hour to come as it’s brilliant for the children normally."
"Absolutely amazing place. Staff are so friendly helpful and very welcoming Food is fresh hot and delicious. The manager Stephanie is so helpful and friendly. Took her time to talk to my daughter who has special needs. Would honestly recommend a visit"
"The rooms are very shabby. The shower was ancient and the water scalding hot. The bath was rusty. There was a mix up with the meals at dinner which meant one of the 14 guests had to eat on their own. 3 of the things we ordered had run out. However the food we did have was very nice. Continental breakfast is poor. Ran out of Danish pastries etc before the majority of our guests were down for breakfast. No toast machine to help yourself. The cleaner was lovely and helpful!! The Reception area is awful and not at all inviting. Needs a new lease of life."
"It was 50/50 really. Met an old friend for a drink and a bite to eat. I had the Fish supper which apart from the stale bread was excellent. My friend had rump steak which was pretty much inedible. Service was quick but when we asked for salt was told "its over there" ? Not sure we'd go back."
"Went for a quick lunch, which was reasonably pleasant in the restaurant, unfortunately the bar section as you walked in from the carpark was rough, with bad language and unpleasant stares evident from the all male clientele. The meal was served quickly and was value for money with the cask beer poor selection although the lager had a good selection. There needs to be a full upgrade of decor as it feels a bit run down."
