"Very disappointing experience!! I don't usually leave bad reviews but I was actually shocked at the experience we had, even more shocked seeing they have 4stars!! Having been to the other cafes in red brick I thought I'd take my Dad to this one. Dirty, bad food, bad drinks, expensive & tip added without a bill!! We sat down and the first thing I noticed was the sticky table...fine we were just excited for breakfast together and very hungry! The tea pot was splattered with grease/water marks and the cappuccino was very poor, tasteless and just foamy. My Dad didn't even finish his tea, he said it was as weak as dishwater (he's a war time baby who doesn't leave a thing!). The food came and at first look I thought it looked good. Unfortunately the taste wasn't there at all. I had the sweetcorn and halloumi fritters and paid extra for bacon. The fritters weren't cooked or crispy, still undone inside. The eggs were watery and the avocado had black bits. Not to mention the avocado pip LEFT in. I bit on this and luckily didn't crack a tooth! My father had sourdough with mushroom, eggs and truffle. His bread was soggy and wet, the portion was poor for £12.50 with only one slice of bread and he said it was all quite bland. My breakfast was £15 and funnily enough I had sweetcorn fritters the week prior with halloumi, spicy beans, eggs and avocado for £8.50 which was delicious. I chose not to say anything during the visit because it was my dad's idea/treat and I didn't want to ruin the moment for him. I was hoping he enjoyed his at least. Also, neither of us had eaten and it was 11-12noon. l had hoped he at least enjoyed his. The male waiter was pleasant, he did his job, however the woman behind the counter making coffees and serving was unfriendly and rude. She didn't ask or say anything ab or it the visit just quoted c.£36 but didn't provide a bill. We paid but then I asked for an itemised bill as it didn't make sense. They had added a £3.60 tip!!!! I like to tip and make a point of it, but I was annoyed enough at paying for the poor food, but a tip for breakfast at a cafe inside a shop when not one part of the process was up to standard, was infuriating. We paid just under £37 for 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks. I'm still shocked that a weak cup of tea is £3?! Or a crossiant £4.40/60?! But to self tip, without providing a bill for the customer to see this is so cheeky. I'd never go back. A real example of being duped by a good looking menu."
"Nice coffee and food, not sure why the 10% service charge is applied to the final bill, after all it's just a mill in Batley, not St Mark's Square Venice."
"The two girls were pleasant and efficient, but didn't make up for two slightly undercooked and cold poached eggs with far too much cold hollandaise sauce, served on a small toasted muffin on a cold plate = cold meal grossly overpriced at £13. Reasonable coffee. To be fair my wife enjoyed her salad on ciabatta. Had room left for a cake, but not at those prices. Will not be returning."
"Slightly different food. Attractive decor. My husband had a chicken satay with mango salad as a main which was delicious. I had a steak and ale pie, something I have never had before. The steak in the pie was so tender that it melted in your mouth. Good service."
"We came here for mother's Day and it was fantastic. The welcome and service from the staff was very good. The food was very good quality and would highly recommend."
